Thanks!
Agree. Strong headwind on Jebel Hafeet wrecked any chance of taking the climb record.Final stage really delivered. And most of the week been good racing as well.
The last stage was one of the fastest stages in the race ever km/h wise, with a big climb at the end.
Wind did its things here. Shaking up the GC.
Great race and very good performances from many riders.
Been a very good edition to follow.
Plus Tommy boy would go to discos and do mountains of blow!!for training and to celebrate!!Boonen and the HotSteppers rocking along the Qatarian echelons was more fun to watch than Pogi and the Pogiboys headlining UAE Tour.
Yates produced the record whilst dealing with a head wind himself.Agree. Strong headwind on Jebel Hafeet wrecked any chance of taking the climb record.
Am basing my comment on Strava times. But I doubt the headwind was as strong when Yates did it. Today there were echelons everywhere due to the wind. Anyway, its only worth mentioning as we expect Pogacar to demolish these kind of records in these races. Especially when we wins the stage with a 7km solo attack.Yates produced the record whilst dealing with a head wind himself.
Those Catalunya stages are also not unipuerto. Vallter 2000 also had rain where Pogi just performs much better relative to the other contenders. That was also closer to the Grand Tour season. In terms of distances on the road it was also not so large as in Catalunya last year (for the closest comparison in terms of time of year) with 1.30 on valter 2000 and 45 sec on port aine. Those are more selective climbs, but it was also Landa chasing, not Ciccione and Bilbao. Cannot really say anything from a training ride up the hafeet in february, but since he's not climbing anything until june well have to milk it for what its worth...
