Have to say, I love the fact that the 'no rules, free spirits, we don't want anything to do with governing bodies' gravel fam are moaning that the UCI sactioned World Championships gave riders with UCI points top billing.

And this was all predictable. Same thing happened with fixed crit racing, same thing happened in Enduro racing, same thing is happening here and the same thing happens when pros turn up to ultra-endurance races. There's a reason they're pro cyclists after all.

It's almost like the disciplin with a lot (relatively) of money attracts all the top talent.

Oss completely empty.

A road & CX rider gets the first gravel world title. Just not the most expected one.

Congrats Gianni.

I am not watching it but wasn't that fully to be expected? Imagine Marathon was not an Olympic disciplin and had no prestige wahtsoever - the 10k runners would still obliterate the Marathon purists in an Marathon event, could they be bothered to do it in this hypothetical scenario.

If you think about it, yes, it was basically guaranteed a pro cyclist, actual pro not influencer pro, would win. Seemed like a number of gravel cyclists didn't think about it. You see the same things at cycling clubs, riders who are the fastest in their mates group turn up thinking they're going to be dropping everyone, then 15 minutes into the ride they're falling off the wheel.

Well, yes, but in your hypothetical scenario the majority of the marathon runners don't show up and the race isn't a marathon, but a 15k instead.
