Holding all the cards?

Thoughtforfood said:
Like I said earlier, stop taking the anger you have about your personal problems out on me. I can't help it if you were sucked in, and I can't help it if the ToC sucks. I also can't help it that Floyd is a funny, funny guy, nor that he is holding all the cards in this lawsuit.

Things are not going your way man, and that is a bummer for you. I get it. Maybe take up a new hobby like bird watching, or maybe take some classes down at the local university on auto repair or something. You'll pull through this sooner or later. Life takes effort sometimes man, so pull up your boot straps and carpe diem this ****er!

Floyd knows how a successful pro cyclist dopes. He's played that card already. Floyd knows intimate details about the USPS team. That card is being played out in his lawsuit and the federal investigation. Floyd's not going to litigate anything, unless he gets a sugar daddy. All Floyd has left is talk. That's not much of a card to play.

Other people, like Zabel, talked without getting caught first. LeMond hasn't talked--he's howled from the rooftops--and he is super-credible. Such efforts surely have promoted incremental antidoping progress, and Floyd's pathetic example has surely done so also. What more can Floyd do? Talk louder? Talk more often?

Floyd ought to tend his lawsuit, write his book, and focus on a new career.

And please stop the personal insults.

Exactly.

And do you think he just faked that emotion on the spot?

No, of course not. They wanted the win badly, so the gave him his max EPO dose. They knew he would likely win, and Lance was coached as to what to do when he crossed the line.

Tying this back to the topic of the thread, that was the kind of behavior that Verbruggen loved because it increased TV viewership. So of course Verbruggen would overlook Lance's many transgressions because it put money into his own personal pocket -- both directly from bribes and indirectly because the UCI made a lot of money off of Lance's circus.

You will note that the lawsuit wasn't filed until Hein recently got together with Fat Pat to work on the radio ban. I'm sure that's not all they talked about...

This is exhibit "A" for proof that "nobody posting in the Clinic is clean".

I've never read anything quite so whack, even in here. Now we have 1995 jacked up overnite EPO/TdF breakaway/UCI advertising money/scripted god salute the day after teamate dies conspiracy theories floating about. What a coordinated effort it took to make all of this come together in 24 hours.

Plus no FL talk between Mcquaid and HV until the radio ban issue.

I need to stop now before I get banned. If I follow this up with too much "opinion" about this post I will surely be gone.

Yea, even I thought it was a bit wacked.

He is holding all the cards because there isn't anything Hein and South Africa Pat can do but win a suit that is completely un-enforceable. And that assumes that the Swiss courts are so completely misguided that they would even allow this to get past the initial stages.

Like I said, anyone can FILE a suit. Floyd has all the cards here. Every single one.

The reason why Cali and Giro are the same time is because Cali partnered with the ASo. They knew it would not only split the teams/riders but the media, too. And since this thread is about Floyd. Just think back to last years ToC. Remember Landislide ( not to be confused with Hi 1 landslide of this year)?
I was talking to an Aussie last year and he said his tv was not even going to cover the Giro. The ASO is not dumb.

This thread has been hijacked already, so I'll add my USD $0.02.

On top of this is McQuaid's aggressive promotion of the ToC over the Giro. There are so many moving parts to get a deal like the ToC from the UCI that I have to believe Pat and Hein are profiting indirectly. Like Tailwind does with USAC.

Reading what I have read by Floyd, about Floyd, comments from pro cyclists, UCI, LeMond, Kimmage etc. I have come to believe that there is really no winner with Floyds' agenda.
I don't mean that as a put down on Floyd, his allies or enemies.
Floyd is seriously toxic to all he is involved with.
Floyd giving a speech at the tour of california is a losing proposition, nothing good can come from it, even for Floyd.

Have people missed the obvious here? He's told everyone that his policy is now a scorched earth policy. I believe him. If he has more to add to his former accusations, why not do it at the ToC in a news conference of some sort? Is there any doubt that the media will be watching everything he has to say? He's already proven that he really doesn't care what lawyers have to say. I suspect that the only thing that would shut him up is some sort of order pertaining to the ongoing federal investigation.

Then again, maybe he's just full of crap.

But then again if it was crap why would there be an investigation?;)

Which part?

a) That Lance was doing EPO in '95? I'm pretty sure that was the year that the Motorola team decided to dope. They were getting their rear ends kicked-badly by the (heavily doped) European pros. They didn't want to lose their sponsorship. So they voted on it and Lance was the major proponent of the pro-doping contingent.

b) That Lance was coached on what to do in the case of a stage win after Fabio's death? Or do you think he knew just what to do all by himself?

Lance got much slicker later on (just like W. did after 9/11), but when I used to watch Lance's early press conferences or read the things he had said, I would tell myself, "That guy is as dumb as a rock." Maybe he was slick enough to come up with the "tribute" all by himself back then. Maybe not.

c) That the UCI suit against Landis was tied to Hein and Pat's recent activity together? I mean, doesn't it seem a bit odd that a guy on the IOC is called in to "mediate" on the race radio ban and then a few days later the UCI files suit against statements Landis said over a year ago? And by the way, how's that "mediation" going? Much progress yet, Hein?

Why such vitriol toward Floyd anyway? He's doing exactly what you guys say you want - taking on the UCI and bringing the dirt and rot of cycling to light. And for that he gets attacked. You should be cheering him on.

The liar and cheater who remains a liar, cheater, and fraud is the "American symbol" is a man with a "big heart" trying to "make it perfect for everyone" while the guy who fessed up to his lying, cheating, and fraud is "crazy and mad" and "desperate" and a "sad clown"?

Do you guys seriously believe that crap?? And why do I get the feeling that if Landis had only talked about, say, Phonak riders and not Bruyneel/Armstrong, he'd be a hero? I really don't get it, other than the fact that what really ****es you off about Landis is simply that the names that he named included Armstrong and Hincapie and Levi and other American riders.

All the Floyd/Omerta breaking fans will be in the room when Gray Manrod pulls the grenade pin on cycling, Nice he has 'Browne Trout' by his side,in a week. Kimmage, LeMond, Walsh, et al are going to be as decimated by his actions. I mean, I know they mean good, but Floyd will go so far over the top, Floyd knows and the backlashes by him will be phenomenal. I guess burn it down is what every clinic guy wants anyway, right. Floyd, Guernica style.
I hate to say it but I told you so, Watts riot to the 10th power.

The poster is not suggesting that Floyd's statements to the feds were crap; he's suggesting that Floyd's current talk is crap. The facts back that up. Follow greymanrod on twitter.

Oh, yeah. I can feel the hype building even now. It will be "The Thrilla in Chowchilla!" Floyd, with just a few words, will break the UCI spell that has so long lain heavy and oppressive upon the land. A new day of truth and fairness will dawn upon the world of cycling.

So, no one from the Breakfast Club picked up on this?

FLitter...

Does anybody know if the UCI is still suing me? I've been asking them where I can get a copy of the complaint and can't get a response.
http://twitter.com/#!/GreyManrod/status/70517154491011072

It would be a huge disappointment if they just gave up.

most of what I say here is a joke but really I've been unable to get a response about the papers.....

UCI is too busy investigating it's own leak to L'Equipe.

GreyManrod is incredibly amusing.

So the case is so far advanced that the defendant hasn't received the legal papers yet!

it probably is a case of more wind from the nether regions of McQ and Hein, they are very good at feeding that stuff to the cycling media who lap it up.

From VN summary of the index of suspicion leak:

With Popovych appearing to be one of the two riders [with an index of 10], [failure to test him over an extensive period of time] will raise further questions from those who claim that there was historically too close a relationship between the governing body and the US Postal Service/Discovery Channel/RadioShack teams. Former US Postal Service rider Floyd Landis claimed that the team received preferential treatment from the UCI in terms of testing, and that bribes were paid to cover up problems. The UCI has denied this and said recently that it would sue Landis.
