What do you want to do about it? They take two different lines and have to get into one path after that. There's no time for rock paper scissors at such a moment.
Also the tree is in the middle there for the specific purpose of allowing riders to make the move Pidcock made. If the organisers wanted to force everyone down the same line they'd have narrowed it to only the right/left of the tree.

The tears of Nino at the line... This time it is over for real, ain't it?
Yeah - Father Time has finally caught up to him......and I can't recall him making so many mistakes in one year......He's won so many races purely through his skills.
In the new series on You Tube Frischi, reckons he won his first 5 World champs as he was the strongest - but his last 5 were won through race craft/ technical skills.

I've seen Pidcock make this move before, like to Schwarzbauer in the last corner of a short track WC last season. He just throws himself in and relies on the other guy to move and avoid a crash. He is clearly talented and I try to like him, but.........

Congrats, great race Tom!
Great race Victor!
Great race Alan!

Homer hat: great race Riley Amos!

TP's move was perfect. To think otherwise is not to understand, and/or not even watch what happened.
Just watched it in real time from the head-on perspective and in slo-mo. While it didn't need to be the definitive move in the race it very well could have for both. Pidcock not only had the lead by half a length, he had the line. Koretsky looked to have tunnel vision and if Pidcock hadn't course corrected and absorbed what looked like Koretsky's contact with his back wheel; both would be in the weeds watching an Italian and South African take first and second. Deep enough in the weeds they'd be off the podium so the French should be thankful it didn't turn out worse.
As for the fans booing....they're partisan fans and saw a quick take on a Jumbotron. What they were chanting at Pidcock in English seemed to be less than a salute and more like encouraging a self-abusive act. Koretsky confirmed it was totally a racing move and Pidcock did nothing wrong.

Again, fans in the heat of the moment will react. I just thought the whole French take on the games of Fraternity and Equality wouldn't net the sort of chant you get out of Eagles fan after a 4th qtr horrible loss where they actually assault each other. Weird ending and it looked like Pidcock was somewhat emotional about that treatment.
Maybe Macron can offer an apology and thankfully the officials and Koretsky stood up for the racing.

Love the Eagles fans comparison—so true! Went to a few games at the Vet back in the 70s.
