Some transfer news; Dutch U23 rider Tom Schellekens has signed for the Jumbo development team. Has had some good results in the World Cup and seemed to be one of the promising riders for the Dutch in XC in the next few years.....Whilst he'll continue riding on the MTB, you'd think that will gradually be dropped - look at the Van Dijke twins....

Well, the Worlds are almost on us, and with no racing since the Nationals nearly a month ago, I really have no idea about form.

N1no is hard to look past for an 11th title, but the weather could throw a spanner in the works if it stays wet. As for the women, who knows? So many are capable of winning.....if it is wet, then you'd think Jolanda, to put on another clinic.

If it is dry, Pidcock won't be beaten. The course is terrible with only a couple of technical man made features that will only slow the technically challenged. The race will be won on the climbs which are like roads. It's going to be very fast.

Dutch television said today that Pidders and Van der Poel are in for the XCC. Van der Poel has to do qualifying first, does he not @Axel Hangleck ? Anyway, quite happy with his participation. The best 20 minute effort rider in the world has to come from last place, but as the same time cannot afford leave it too late, with Schwarzbauer ready to unleash in the last straight.
Everyone has to race qualifying. Top 20 out of each heat advance to the finals. Don't believe that the finals have any bearing on XC start grid as it does at world cups. Didn't at last year's World's anyhow.

There were qualifiers for the Val di Sole Worlds for those outside a certain World ranking......

The XC Marathon is this weekend, and looks as if Avancini is going for it, as well as the XCC & XCO. Not sure how much coverage it will get, if any.

Entry lists:

Both Hatherly & Mitterwallner on the entries at the moment; I actually think Mona is probably better suited to this than XCO.

Having just watched the men's Junior World Road race, it's the Junior European XCO champion, Albert Phillipsen who rides away from everybody, yet again to win. And the inevitable talk of which road team he's going to go to. however, he's already on the Canyon sponsored CCLTV team, with Schwarzbauer, Lecomte & Burquier......

Canyon need to keep hold of him.

Really disappointed at the lack of coverage of the XC Marathon race; I wasn't expecting full on coverage, but something. Sadly not, and had to make do with just live timing - not good enough in 2023.
Agreed, also only point of split times on the course. This ain't 2005 anymore.

That said, with Van der Poel winning gold on the road yesterday and thereby ending his road season one would think the way is open for him to go all in on the World Cup in the off chance he doesn't make it, but it would appear that he is going to end his season on Saturday no matter what. At this point, I wouldn't even care if he missed qualification for Paris.

No champs for Vader so the Dutch really are relying on MvdP......
