Wonder if there will be complaints. Do we know the rest of the grid order yet? Because ranking points put Pidcock and Gaze around that range don't they?

There should be; the rules have changed at the 'last minute'. And some riders may have not entered as they thought they would have a low ranking, but have a Top 10 ranking in another discipline.
They've opened a can of worms...

Rissveds crashed during warm-up and DNSed, no idea how bad it is. She has had lot of problems lately and was diagnosed with iron deficiency last week but seemed positive on Instagram today. What a shame.

I read somewhere that Rissveds had a vegan diet. It's really hard to get all the nutrients an athlete needs on that diet.

Rissveds had a vegan diet before but changed to a normal diet prior to this season. Still it wasn’t enough. However, now that they know of the issue I presume they’ll take action so it doesn’t happen again.

She suffered a presumed concussion so no racing this week. Hopefully she’ll recover and be able to compete in a few of the remaining World Cup rounds.

Pidock already expected to be DQed (post race interview)
strange to me he still has the bronze
I get the increasing sense that Pidcock's an a$$hole. Do you have the link for the interview? I heard he also said he didn't care if he was disqualified, picture of the pretty much no empathy towards the person he wiped out

Yes, the classic motorcycle 'block pass'.
It was certainly a block pass, but he went full speed into the other rider. In that circumstance, a block pass can often end in a DQ and is a much riskier endeavor. In many ways it looked like a Cat 4 racer move, diving into the line that really wasn't there, at the expense of others. Props to the way Schwarzbauer has dealt with it.

Ten seconds into the U23 race and Carter Woods is already out of it.
Gutted for Carter and I wonder if he was just having a bad day at the worst time.

Charlie is Scottish and I think has been training on this course all year ... smoking win by him

Pidcock basically drove into him, it was a d0uchebag move.
You could argue Schwarzbauer was passed and shouldn't have tried to cut into the faster rider, but at the end of the day I didn't see anything particularly wrong with it. It was aggressive and a second or so later I'd have a bigger problem, and I have no idea about his personality but it wouldn't surprise me if he's arrogant.

Schwarzbauer was simply following the line that he and others had been, it definitely didn't look like an intentional squeeze as much as surprise that Pidcock took an inside line at full speed and bumped into him. We could probably debate this all day; I personally have an issue with that level of aggression in a race, and I'm used of some contact in racing. But whatever, it's done and dusted and Schwarzbauer just wanted to bring attention to it and was not protesting.

The rate at which Pidcock seems to chop other riders (seen other aggressive passes without contact or crashes), he might find himself getting chopped pretty aggressively in the future.

Before they got to the tape on the apex of the corner, Pidcock had passed him. Schwarzbauer doesn't have the right to follow a line just because that's the line he and others have taken previously. I can understand why he's annoyed, but the contact is his front wheel with Pidcock's rear wheel. Shoulder to shoulder, yes, I'd have a problem, but this was fine for me. If someone does it to Pidcock, he'll have no cause for complaint.

The speed at which Pidcock goes into that line did not allow for much or perhaps any reaction and Pidcock would have known contact would have been very likely. He dove into the corner on the inside line at full speed and there's no way he wouldn't have realized the likely outcome, which is supported by the fact that he didn't seem to care if he got a DQ. That latter aspect is probably more annoying for me ... if you are not too stressed about getting a DQ, then why risk another rider not finishing or perhaps even getting injured through your being a d0uchebag. It's all rhetorical of course, and with a block pass, there is subjectivity in what is okay. You and I have different thresholds, and that's okay too.

I guess my main thinking is that I don't think Pidcock needed to make contact to make the turn. If I thought he would have missed the turn without contact, that's when I'd have an issue.

I only followed the women's U23 race through livetiming, but it looked like a pretty impressive performance from Samara Maxwell. She's been behind Heby and Blöchlinger in the World Cup races, but here she gave them, Vas, Burquier and everyone else a schooling right from the get go (Heby did crash though).

For those who don't know, Heby is listed as 'Pedersen' in the results. But there are entirely too many Pedersens in Danish cycling already!

'Guys, we want to make XCO more fair by making it multiple discipline, and give those who are top 10 in the world in their respective discipline a chance at competing. That's not strange, we do this for other disciplines too!'

- 'Okay, so but what about Pidcock, who is not top 10 on the road? Will he just have to settle for less, despite putting in the work and showing up to World Cups?'

'Well, shit. Let's make it top 20 instead.'

- 'Okay, so Peter Sagan starts in last place, right?'

'Fuck. Let's make it top 311 instead. He has historic value!'

Dictator David takes no prisoners. Everything must be destroyed, whatever the cost.

Only cycling has fans conservative enough to think it's fun having the stars of the sport racing at considerable disadvantage. Meanwhile, the casual fan loses interest if there's no chance for these guys to do anything special. The explanation given by mr. Van den Abeele makes perfect sense.
