Great achievement for Fab to work his way up to 5th best rider so far this year...

And well done to the UCI for finding such a fair and balanced way to rank different achievements...
What do you mean? It is only fair that winning a monument gives as much points as winning the incredibly prestigious TDU for example, which tons of riders has as their main goal for the season. Great system.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic the "..." at the end is a clue.

Yeah... when I think of the 10 riders who have performed best this year, I immediately go to Iglinski over Contador.

Does anyone have up to date team rankings?

I just went and got the team rankings myself.

1 CAISSE D'EPARGNE (GCE) ESP 429
2 TEAM KATUSHA (KAT) RUS 342
3 CERVELO TEST TEAM (CTT) SUI 302
4 TEAM HTC - COLUMBIA (THR) USA 289
5 TEAM SAXO BANK (SAX) DEN 276
6 OMEGA PHARMA-LOTTO (OLO) BEL 255
7 ASTANA (AST) KAZ 229
8 QUICK STEP (QST) BEL 226
9 LIQUIGAS-DOIMO (LIQ) ITA 210
10 BMC RACING TEAM (BMC) USA 197
11 RABOBANK (RAB) NED 190
12 SKY PROFESSIONAL CYCLING TEAM (SKY) GBR 169
13 EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI (EUS) ESP 160
14 GARMIN - SLIPSTREAM (GRM) USA 143
15 TEAM RADIOSHACK (RSH) USA 135
16 ANDRONI GIOCATTOLI - SERRAMENTI PVC DIQUIGIOVANNI (AND) ITA 118
17 ACQUA & SAPONE (ASA) ITA 116
18 LAMPRE-FARNESE VINI (LAM) ITA 115
19 COFIDIS, LE CREDIT EN LIGNE (COF) FRA 113
20 VACANSOLEIL PRO CYCLING TEAM (VAC) NED 100
21 COLNAGO - CSF INOX (CSF) IRL 93
22 TEAM MILRAM (MRM) GER 76
23 AG2R LA MONDIALE (ALM) FRA 65
24 TOPSPORT VLAANDEREN - MERCATOR (TSV) BEL 60
25 FRANÇAISE DES JEUX (FDJ) FRA 44
26 BBOX BOUYGUES TELECOM (BTL) FRA 15
27 FOOTON-SERVETTO (FOT) ESP 7
28 SAUR - SOJASUN (SAU) FRA 6

Interesting facts for me...

-for all the BMC/Vasconelli stuff going on... BMC is 10th while Vasco is 20th.
-Horner's win was pretty big... RS jumped from 24th to 15th. They'll need those points since they won't get any from the Giro.
-How do Valverde's points count for the team ranking with his current suspension situation? Could Caisse lose a chunk at some point?
- Is it safe to say at this point that every team above 11 is a safe bet to get a TDF invite next season? That jump between Rabo and Sky seems to be the point where any chance of losing an automatic bid disappears.

Has Omega-Pharma won ANYTHING this year?

What a load of old tosh.
Cadel Evans has done what, this season, exactly? A second and third in Tirreno?
In that case, where's Garzelli and Scarponi?
The TDU strikes again.
I'd love to know who got BMC the other 80 odd points, which almost equals the omnipresent Vacansoleil's total.

As for Cancellara being 5th, having won two monuments and a HC.....

If the UCI can "massage" the figures here, to such an extent, heaven help the bio passport numbers.

A total farce.

The World Ranking says absolutely nothing, complete bull**** of a ranking.
How can Cancellara not lead it? Because LL Sanchez rides Down Under, Paris Nice and Catalunya?? Come on. In Catalunya a neo pro like Kreder can top 10. What does it really say?

So for a more logical BMC/Vacans comparison, take CQ, which actually gives a much more logical ranking.

1. Usa Team HTC - Columbia PRT 2937
2. Esp Caisse d'Epargne PRT 2783
3. Ita Liquigas - Doimo PRT 2464
4. Rus Team Katusha PRT 2452
5. Den Team Saxo Bank PRT 2415
6. Usa Garmin - Transitions PRT 2083
7. Ned Rabobank PRT 1989
8. Ned Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team PROF 1938
9. Usa Team RadioShack PRT 1878
10. Kaz Astana PRT 1845

23. Usa BMC Racing Team PROF 1127

Ouch, BMC owned.

lol you realize these rankings regard only PT races. Take in all the other non-PT races, which some are brilliant races in their own right and you would find the rankings a little different. CQ rankings are a lot more accurate.

edit: d_t sums it up.

Bring back the old UCI ranking...

In other words. All official UCI races should count in the rankings. That means all 1.2 and 2.2 races and above.

+1

what a load of crap the current system is. I'm pretty sure had all races been included the dutch would have had a full squad at the WCs last year too.

Netherlands is a solid 7th/6th the last few years in the CQ ranking.
Even at their worst still 9th in that one.

That's also because the UCI only counts the top 5 riders of each country, giving small countries a HUGE edge like norway and luxembourg, who only have a few good riders. While France and Netherlands get raped.

Hincapie: 4th at Gent-W = 40 pts, 6th at Flanders = 40pts

Evans was also 6th in TdU = 40pts

Not that I'm defending the system, which is clearly a load of old bunk (like any ranking system, really)

I do realize that.

I also understand that the UCI PT rankings are what the TDF will use next year to determine the 16 or 17 teams that automatically get a place at the Tour.

So while it might not indicate correctly which team is better... it is the one that matters.

Yes, me too. I answered the sarcasm with further sarcasm. See what I did there? The "prestigious TDU" was a clue.

I got that, I just though you didn't realize what you were being sarcastic to, sorry if I offended you.

Doesn't bode well for teams like Vacansoleil and Skil, (not that I have a huge problem with this years' selection given the present parameters). I think most, if not all of the French teams will be outside the top-17 at the end of the year, meaning they could take 3-4 wildcard slots.

Ironically, the system will probably work out positively for other non-pro tour teams who focus more on the Giro like Diquigiovanni and Acqua & Sapone. Both were also in the top 17 for 2009, are fairly consistent throughout the year(especially Diqui) and will probably score points in the Giro.

I'd forgotten Hincapie's G-W success.:rolleyes::eek:

Gawd, it makes even less sense.
Björn Leukemans 4th in Flanders and 6th in Paris-Roubaix equals all of Vacansoleil's points.

All the other results they've had this season have earned exactly nil points.

I think smaller races SHOULD count... but I'm not sure how much.

I don't think winning a very small race should count as much as finishing 10th in a big race. I don't like the idea that the point system might make top teams change their schedule away from the top races to some degree in order to get more points by dominating smaller races if they feel they'd be "also rans" in bigger races.
