Can anyone watch Universal Sports on the web?

they have a channel finder, so you need to enter your zip

http://www.universalsports.com/fls/23000/tv/where-to-find-on-tv.html

It tells me in DC it's supposed to be on 207, but it's NOT showing the Giro. It's the OLD Hoogerheide cyclocross WC, I am witnessing... wrong country, wrong sport, wrong time...

Online, it doesn't work either (or too many people are accessing it, so there might be a cut off so that the servers don't get blown up)

It works for me on Firefox, but it didn't at first. I didn't have to download anything, but I had to click the full screen button to see anything. Even now, I can only view it in fullscreen, which of course, is fine. Before that, it was blank. I also accessed the page from a different link, but I don't think that had anything to do with it.

So why are they not airing it on TV, but have it online only?

Why would they show reruns of old sporting events instead of a live event? Does not make sense to me. I think the timing was off, because they said it would start at 8:30 ET, which is 14:30 European Time.

Europsort only started airing it at 16:00 European time, and sometimes/usually they only start 30 mins after official images are released.

Putting all of CTV's problems aside, it was still the best option (replay) for those of us with jobs. "****ed" would be a fitting word to describe my present mood.

Well, the internet commentator was certainly as pro-Lance as Phil, Bob, and Paul.

That is definitely annoying, but not having two minutes of commercials every five minutes is a big plus.

Phil and Paul have started to irk me, so not listening to them is also a plus.

Universal Sports..... I now get a 25 second cycling promo with sound, even if I choose another video from another sport!. Then it ends. Too much!

Is this a pay service or what? ..... I don't understand why nothing plays. Is this is a proprietary windows thing?

For everyone that has to work while live coverage is on and were counting on the replay on CTV.....here's some great news. It appears that Uniiversal Sports will have an "as live" replay. Today's stage is up in it's entirety. I hope this will be the case for all stages. On paper, all the good stage take place Monday thru Friday. I worried that I would miss huge chunks of racing due to work. I feel much better and if CTV will give me some of my cash back, all will be right in my world.

It appears Universal Sports is a Windows/ Mac thing after all. That's too bad, as even this was the only way to see cycling, I'd give up watching cycling. F'ck 'em ..... F'ck 'em good!

I have to say that I was very impressed with the coverage that US had today. I went onto the site this morning and watched the TT from the Tour of the Basque Country while waiting for the Giro to start. Once the Giro did I did what someone suggested and brought up the Eurosport audio feed via yahoo, that is until the commentary started on the US feed.

I am so elated to be able to watch my sport and one of my favorite races. Not having Phil or Paul didn't take as much getting used to as I thought. All in all a fantastic production and I can't wait to see tomorrow's stage.

As for those who commented on it not being on the tv. I believe they are airing recaps of the stage ala Versus. The live video is online and does have commentary (at least today did).

Here's to hoping the qoute in the Velonews article where the guy from US says they may have Milan San Remo and Tirreno Adriatico next year is correct and that they get all the ASO races someday too.

The Worlds are listed on the US schedule too btw.

They are airing it on TV but it seems like many people's providers don't carry the channel.

I am paying my cable company extra for the Universal HD TV coverage - but - it is NOT there. There are NO listings for it in the coming week.

This Blows -

As far as I know, you won't find live cycling in HD. Track riding in a controlled environment, yes maybe from nbc or something.... but on the road live..... I don't think so. Cost is way too much.

Universal HD is not the same as Universal Sports Channel BTW.

Dual boot, bro. Or do what I do and keep a Windows box around for just such a situation.

I found the video pretty good. A lot of compression artifacts on a big screen, but that sort of creates a quaint feel.

Check this link to see if they are broadcasting it OTA in your area. I was surprised this morning as I was hooking up my mom's new digital to analog converter box and here was this NBC sub channel 9.3 in Denver that I never knew existed showing the TTT.

Anyone with a newer TV with a digital tuner and an antenna should be able to get the OTA transmission. Or, if your TV isn't new enough, you could always get a digital -> analog box or a terrestrial HD tuner.

If you're having problems make sure you look at the FAQ and Help pages on the Universal site. They answer a lot of questions.

The only thing I miss regarding Phil and Paul is Phil's ability to call a sprint. He and David Duffield really are/were magic at that. The Duffers would be so excited you'd be on the edge of your seat with your legs going in circles under your chair. And they do bring a sense of nostalgic congeniality. Aside from that, I think most other English speaking commentators have pretty much caught up, and in some regards passed them.

I appreciate the input. I did the dual boot thing with my previous pc, and it it's laying around in storage somewhere..... but dual booting is a bit like living in a foreign country and speaking english. No matter how great it is that you can speak english.... you're reminded daily you're in a foreign speaking country.

I'll stick to watching the foreign feeds. Yeah .... all the feeds have artifacts and the quality is low..... but at least we can watch it. Maybe this was what is was like watching TV in the 40's when it started. Technology runs in circles. Take the lowly cell phone...... "can you hear me?...... you're breaking up!" :) We think it's the greatest thing though! LOL

If you do visit Universal Sports, please leave feedback! An enthusiastic response from cyclists could get us more programming in the US.

Down at the bottom there are the 'Site Survey' and 'Feedback' links. Took less than 5 minutes to complete the survey and I composed a short feedback message (subject of 'programming').

Thanks all.
