And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference between the younger generation and the, uh...older generation (that would be me).


I love the fact that there is no soundtrack or anything additional to the video. I usually can't stand a lot of the hardcore tunes that people put to these types of vids. I love being able to hear the rider breathe, along with the sound of the course itself.

Here's one that appears to be from the man himself, Filip Polc, winner in 2010 and 2011. It seems to be a pre-race trial run judging from the lighter crowds in certain sections (especially at the very end). It's still completely sick though (with another near-miss of a dog @ 00:28!). Those stairs?!?!

Legendary mountain biker brothers Dan and Gee Atherton go for a ride through Dona Marta slum in Brazil. The course was designed and built for the unprecedented Red Bull Desafio no Morro race.

It's astounding how they simply make-do with what they have for a course. I'm guessing it's probably not what the city planners had in mind when they built the place.

Yeah, urban downhill. Sick it is. As gone over before, jackasses or cojones, actually tons of both. Way sick risk in this stuff - SO many ways to demote yourself to hamburger quality - SO many. A lot of these are Freaky scary to me, but some are really cool. The bad ones, though, I get enough adrenalin just watching, don't even talk about the potential for pain, I'll faint.

Pretty cool stuff.

I didn't see this thread, so posted these elsewhere - but they are different courses. Same thing, urban downhill.

I thought this one was hairy, but after watching the Valparaiso course, that looks scarier to me, except possibly the dirt ridge section near the end of the course. With that loose dirt, that could go easily wrong, too:

This one is a milder version - a little more a speed I can see me being able to do - a few years ago. Start at 3:08

The Red Bull run almost looks mild in comparison to Valparaiso. More technical, some hard slam turns, but much shorter, and fewer out and out obstacles than Valparaiso. I may be a wimp, but even the big names are showing some caution:

Andrew Neethling went down hard after clipping his bars on a lamp post in practice and had to go get stitches. Lacondeguey and Agassiz just couldn't keep the pace, and both decided to take it easy and not risk their necks on one of the sketchier jumps, using a wall ride option line instead, adding at least 6 seconds to their times, and not making the finals.
