I found this blog post very informative regarding elite athlete salaries inside IOC's highest payout sport.

Approximately 50% of our athletes who rank in the top 10 in the USA in their event make less than $15,000 annually from the sport (sponsorship, grants, prize money, etc.) and

Best case scenario is it's a feast-or-famine system.

Moderators, if you want to move this somewhere you feel more appropriate, then go ahead.

If you are Suzy Favor Hamilton then you get $600/hr.

This was what I was thinking when I saw the tread title, also wasn't it $6k for a nite?

Someone like Usain Bolt, well, apparently even the Prefontaine Classic here in Eugene, OR (the alleged Tracktown, USA [which every other elite track&field athlete always bothers to show up at]) can't afford him.

Yikes, sorry about *****ing about Usain Bolt, the OP was clearly talking about US track&field stars. (Bolt being Jamaican, of course.)

My girl Allyson Felix has always shown up at the Prefontaine Classic, however, and i'll just leave it at that.
