Phil Liggett: "Well I never thought I'd see the day when Lance Armstrong would blow away the man we have always referred to as the finest climber we have ever seen in the professional peleton of cycling...a shake of the head there from little Marco Pantani"

6 time winner?

Also do you think they know Social Networking has been banned at the Olympics?

Williams is not the first athlete to invest in Mobli. Six months ago, US cyclist and six-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong invested in the company and was appointed a director. Like Armstrong, Williams will open a special channel in Mobli's mobile app, allowing people to follow special moments during the Olympics, from the opening ceremony, through the competitions, dressing rooms, and other activities planned for the athletes during the games.

Anticipating an Early Dismissal

Most informed spectators expect an early dismissal of Armstrong's lawsuit. That means that Armstrong will have decide whether or not to contest USADA in the arbitration.

Lance has already said (a) that he won't fight; and (b) that he has no chance of winning the arbitration (he said that in his complaint). Is he going to spend more money to fight the arbitration?

I don't think Lance is rational about this. I think he's going to keep fighting and keep throwing money at this--even after all the facts about the USPS conspiracy become public.

He will spend the rest of his life fighting. It's the only mode he knows and it's his comfort zone. It allows him to feel self-righteous. He can perform all sort of mental gymnastics, deny the doping (denial in intra-psychic sense), and feel that he's superior for fighting a system that is - or he perceives to be - unjust to him and other athletes. He will see himself as the martyr and that will help him deal with the fact that the majority will view him as a fraud.

Are there any important dates/deadlines coming up? When will/should there be a ruling on Lance's lawsuit, and when would arbitration take place? I'm just not sure about the time frame here

I think the endgame for this will be a 'surprise announcement' from LA that his cancer has returned. It will be the ultimate play for public sympathy. Of course there won't be any actual proof shared, citing doctor/patient confidentiality. Just my cynical opinion.

I'm surprised it hasn't already. The USADA Jurisdiction stuff was rubbish. Judge Sparks obviously wants to make sure everything is in order, and fair enough. The implications of what could happen are big in relation to USADA being able to fullfil their function.

If one person asks the judge to do something, the judge is always going to want to hear from the other side. It is fundamental due process.

Perhaps avoiding the ball and blame.

Not sure if he intended this, but throughout he restates he isn't an expert and relative to the blood passport places his faith and that of the UCI with the actual experts in interpreting the results.

Reads like he truly did publicly disavow Armstrong and by doing so strengthened the USADA case.

"If you're looking at the passport, it's a different system, you're looking at experts, and experts have to agree whether we open up a procedure or not, and it's a long process before we get to that stage."

and:

"... it's all down to the experts and what they read into the passport."

Washing hands and distancing?

I just hope some of the dirt (on the UCI) sticks and the institution is eviscerated. We need real controls free of corruption and grift.

Do you get the feeling Paddy's getting a bit nervous?

Cyclingnews: Because I'm with Cyclingnews and it's my job to be a downer, I would like you to comment on an article in the New York Daily News (by Nathaniel Vinton), who wrote, "If USADA’s case against Armstrong is valid, then professional cycling has been the victim of breathtaking corruption", bigger than any other sport. If USADA can prove its case, how does that impact the UCI, cycling in the Olympics - if a sport is going to get voted out of the Games in Rio...

The question is spot-on and the answer was... dubious.

How does the UCI take such pride in being at the forefront of anti-doping technology with the biological passport and then push all of that back on WADA?

Someone asked a hard question - and without a yellow jersey on, PMcQuack can't call the asker a F*ing W*er and drop the microphone and storm out.

That interviewer has cajones.

Agreed. That may be one short Q/A that Pat lives to rue.
