Thanks for the link. She has put the argument together nicely. That's a hard stance to take and an unpopular one in Austin. Guess she doesn't get her bikes from Mellow Johns.

Lance is not popular in Austin.

Ahem, aren't you forgetting someone?

My sincerest apologies!

...I will pay to see the LA apology list to include Mr. and Mrs. Andreu!

What would be really cool is if Mr. Andreu could resume a journalistic role after the USADA hearing and be allowed to ask Lancey an hour's worth of questions. Damn, that would be solid.

I'd pay money to see that.

What? Comeback 2.0 produced glorious victory in the Nevada City Crit. Cat 1 shop mechanics all over the western US trembled in his presence after that.

thanks for reminding me. I think I may have some prize money coming my way! Say what you will, but that's always a tough race.

BTW, what the hell every happened to Chad Gerlach? He was absolutely terrorizing the entire field that day. Man, talk about talent. Is he living under a bridge again?

Even if he is, he is still a more honest doper than Armstrong.

This is what I've been saying. I'd love to have a beer with JV, but only after he tells the entire story. I don't hate the guy, but until he squares-out the ledger, I have to hold my ground. Apologies in advance to those of you that have lower standards for redemption.

If you had a beer with JV he would tell you everything. He is not shy.

For a long time a questioned why he did not speak up publicly but now it makes sense. If he had he would have just been another statistic. He would have lost his team and been smeared.

Instead he waited until there was a real opportunity to crush the bully and then threw everything he had at it. USADA's case is not only Floyd and Tyler, it has many of JV riders and staff. Wonderboy certainly hates Floyd and Tyler but JV is also on his hate podium.

I don't always agree with him but long term his strategy is winning

Vendetta?

I am really trying to find the logic in this vendetta thingy most fanboys and girls buy into

Vendetta

1: blood feud (no pun intended)
2: an often prolonged series of retaliatory, vengeful, or hostile acts or exchange of such acts <waged a personal vendetta against those who opposed his nomination

Lets assume for the sake of discussion someone or some 'body' group had a retaliatory grudge against Lance as he says.

Exactly who might that be and why?

So tyler for example might right? If Tyler does does that mean simply that USDA or Feds do? Flandis? Same thing. Just because he does then an entire bureaucracy does?

So the Feds wanted REVENGE for something bout couldn't get it done now the USDA must want to inflict reparations on Lance because they have a vendetta we are told.

Amusing the above is True what exactly is this Vendetta Lance?

They love cancer and want people to die? they hate success and want people to fail or bring those down who do succeed just because?

fanboys and girl I have an open mind so please indulge us all.

Lancey what is the so called revenge for?

please tell

As someone once pointed out;

Armstrong must be a terrible judge of character. Never before has one man had so many former friends who became bitter, twisted, aggrieved, spiteful people in one life who were all out to get him and his money.

He also must be extremely unlucky that even after all his amazing charity work that so many agencies on a sporting and government level are trying to take him down for no good reason.

Strange.

I still don't think Armstrong is truly going to fight this. This is all posturing...his strategy right now is to build public perception of this as the rape of a hero by USADA and their band of haters.

Yes, exactly, as I noted before. He will fight this only and entirely in the court of public opinion. He'll put a "me the cancer hero against the government USADA" spin on it as much as he can. Some will buy it.

As Henry said, USADA just has to be quiet and thorough, and make sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, that's it. I think we'll find a Mt. Ventoux size pile of evidence, some of which will be very damming. But LA will still never confess, he'll stick to the LA vs. USADA path, to the end. Maybe on his deathbed he'll finally confess, maybe.

I would bet

Hard to do that when all his teammates are saying the opposite. It's impossible to paint guys like Hincapie, Leipheimer, Vaughters, Zabriskie, etc. as all haters.

I think Alpe is suggesting that Lance won't fight. And if Lance doesn't fight, then USADA doesn't have to produce it's proof that Lance doped. This means no testimony (and no show:(). You can see the PR opportunities (and the PR downsides).

USADA's made it hard for Lance, though. They've put every single TdF in jeopardy (not just the last two, as Lance expected).

I still believe it will be the IRS which get him pinned the end. I guarantee some hothead there is watching all the activity. If there were drug sales there was money if there was money there had to be a income statement. If there was an income statement there would have been taxes. But you really cant report income on illicit activities. So a crook washes it. Washes it in businesses or charities. Bingo. Livestong

And if he had a brilliant idea of deducting payment to coaching services in his personal income statement(cost of diing business... LA LLC) and those personal coaching services included illegal drugs(Ferrari) he is cooked

If he doesn't admit, but just waives his right to a hearing, in his mind and his PR people's minds he'll be pleading no contest. But USADA can still put out a press release like this that says Lance and the gang accepted the penalty for trafficking, aiding and abetting, covering up...all the stuff he's accused of. That would be brutal. The ball is still in USADA's court.

He also has to take into account what effect that will have on him and his Tailwind buddies as far as civil court cases go, and on Johan's career, although Johan has said he will cooperate (whatever that means). It's quite a complicated situation he's gotten himself into. And there is still the outside chance that a criminal case could be re-ignited by USADA saying he accepted the penalty for facilitating doping.

Confession??

Previously I gave it no chance: hubris, greed and ego dictated such an outcome.

However I now concede, while not likely, there is a significant chance.

Reason: I recon the USADA process will allow for some leniency/face saving in exchange for quality info. Also there is a huge bunch of hope (mine!) that will compel confession :D.

The hope??? That the confession will include some interesting info on the interactions of Hein and Pat.

Now that I would pay to see.

So what is next?

Last weeks events were no surprise to those who read The Clinic....but what is next?

you will hear the phrase "take the shot or you do not start"
We will find out about an American rider who got his EPO confiscated by customs
Tyler was not the only guy who doped at the 2004 Olympics
Followed, hacked, and harassed. Yup. Lots of that.
Pictures
Tapes
Tenerife
and more good news coming from across the pond

Stay tuned kids. Last week was just the half time show. This quarter going to be fun!

He was already given the chance to assist with the investigation. He declined. Bad move
