USADA - Armstrong

As BotanyBay posted further up thread, it is time for us all to start writing to our national federations ( Cycling Australia in my case) expressing our loss of confidence in the UCI, and demanding action. I'll post mine after I've composed it.

I'm not optimistic this is going to do anything. I've followed the IOC<->UCI from way, way out in the cheap seats for a while now. Perhaps if the federations pushed for relieving the UCI of all doping enforcement authority and resign themselves to rider advocate, that might be a start. But, then you are challenging the IOC.

There are more than one UCI. There's the UCI cooperative that national federations rely upon for a wide variety of mundane things and probably much of the IOC/World Championships stuff.

And then there's the money end of the UCI. WCP, ASO, and a variety of far-off races that Pat gets behind at the expense of much better races. Off the top of my head, Pat's complaining about the Giro being irrelevant during the Tour of California is an example.

Essentially I think most people in official positions will be in line with Pat. The best chance for action would probably come from Amaury and the top teams... maybe even the IOC.

Why do you think that most people in the national federations will be in line with Pat? Is it something structural about the UCI relationship with the federations, or do they have a shared interest in keeping stuff like this suppressed?

IMO:
1. The fish rots from the head. Think "old boys' club".
2. If you support something anti establishment and it fails. Eesh. Risk averse are our local overlords.

I am surprised that USADA is going public with documents related to this case where in the past they have always refused to do so. This is actually a good move as otherwise Armstrong/UCI (in reality the same thing) would totally control the information flow available to the public and as we know this is crucially important.

This reminds me of that scene in an Indiana Jones move where Harisson Ford is facing a marshall arts guy gesticulating with a swinging chain and Ford just pulls out a gun and shoots him. Armstrong/UCI would be the gesticulating idiot, USADA would be Ford.

I don't think USADA has made anything public they didn't have to (at least not directly), it's just that apparently federal court filings like this are public in general in the USA (which I think is awesome).

the UCI's recent babble is just an attempt to scarw witnesses and influence the Federal jurisdiction smokescreen.

The message is clear to anyone who talked and is expecting immunity.......the UCI will ignore whatever deals USADA struck and go after the riders who told the truth.

Of course Fat Pat knows that this has to go to CAS, but he would rather clog the toliet because he know he would lose at CAS

It's worse then that. Wonderboy's paid liars were given the heads up by USADA that they were going to miss the deadline. Classy gesture by Travis. Anyone think Wonderboy's team would do the same?

I loved that smug "you'll get it on monday when it's due" by Armstrong's lawyers in the e-mail exchange. I wish I could have seen his face when he read the USADA's lawyer's response.

Sparks is aware or the late filing. He gave them till midnight. His view was that he wanted to rule on what is submitted by both parties rather than dismissing on a technicality.

Armstrong's shannigans won't help his cause.

Armstrong is vulnerable. He is teetering on the edge. Now is the time to push him off the cliff. If people wait then there may not be the chance.

Do you know how petty and childish you sound? (and not just you, the bulk of bitter people posting in this thread also sound the same).

The charges against Lance are ludicrous - all this business with granting immunity for more culpable cyclists to testify against him is grounds enough to label this investigation a complete farce. No wonder the UCL has had to step in. The USDA don't have the authority to issue sanctions against Armstrong let alone offer immunity and reduced sanctions to self confessed cheats!
The UCL will rightly want to ensure the correct action is taken against admitted dopers whilst ensuring the process itself isn't abused or shrouded in a murky cloak as it is now.

If the USADA has genuine, legally and morally obtained sound evidence against Lance Armstrong then they should hand it over to the UCL as requested and stop acting as some renegade judicial outfit. The UCL are the Governing body and the higher authority.

Most of you are so anti Armstrong that you can't see the woods for the trees. You can't actually see how dangerous it is for cycling and sports as a whole if outfits such as the USADA are allowed to go on campaigns, manipulate rules and set agendas in order to achieve their goals.

Hopefully this case will destroy the USADA in its current form and force the outfit to undergo serious reform. Shame on you all here for acting like cheerleaders and dancing with glee every time the USADA crosses a moral or legal boundary.
