that's hogwash. who gives a crap what racers think? Arrogance? what are you ten? All said and done Lance is still a hero. Has nothing to do with some technicalities of racing. His work ethic speaks loud and clear. Small minded haters have their work cut out for them for many years to come.

You focus on another legend created by his PR group. All racers have a legendary work ethic to even compete on almost any level. You clearly don't know any racers or you wouldn't have this conveniently narrow view.
In the end the idolators could say "he was willing to do anything"...

Not that it matters but I posted 11 times on this thread in the 24 hours preceding Armstrong's announcement - everything from arbitration to doing a word puzzle.

That sounds like something Armstrong would come up with.

To the blue - he is a public figure, not simply an athlete - because of his own self promotion which made him known worldwide - its also why significant press coverage was devoted to him being stripped of his titles.
But he is now a public figure who is known simply as a doped athlete.

I didn't say you didn't post. I said you weren't contesting specious posts provided they toed the proper line.

The fact that some of my arguments sound like Armstomgs does't make me a fan, intern or sychophant, it makes me a realist and critic of media politics in this country. (A position that more might consider holding).

He didn't make himself that on his own: many corporations and consumers helped out.

Again, he is only that way now for you: history won't judge it that way.

Not sure why any rational person would hold LA up to be a hero... but I'm quite sure he's still a hero to many.

His work ethic speaks loud and clear.

Little doubt LA had a strong work ethic. Too bad we never we able to see how far his natural talent and work ethic would have taken him.

Small minded haters have their work cut out for them for many years to come

I'm going to guess that it will be the small minded worshipers that will be working the hardest.

Kimmage interview on Irish radio tonight. It starts at 32 mins and 30 secs in. He rips into the UCI and talks about spending the 2008 Tour with Garmin and hearing shocking stories about Armstrong. Listen to the Irish presenters after the interview finishes. They also criticise Armstrong and pull no punches in doing so.

http://media.newstalk.ie/listenback/22/friday/1/popup

Wow - they sure don't pull any punches. And it is refreshing to hear people separate what somebody does for cancer and that they are a drugs fraud.
Thanks for that.

What stage is the lantern rouge still on? I think earlier - weeks ago - the issue of who was the 1st clean rider in 2006 and the response was Pierrick Fedrigo. So Onion is funny in that in satire there is truth.

My favorite Onion article was about Gillete's razors and what number they were going to come out with after the triple razor. It was pre-scient.

hope you weren't serious about the American tax payer comment, if so that was just hopelessly ignorant. that's like saying spending money on the fire department to prevent and stop fires is a huge waste of money. Umm.... they're the fire dept, they do more than show up at the fair with the big red truck.

Yes, it speaks loud and clear.... hard work and effort wasn't enough and he cheated. He's weak minded - certainly in terms of morals.

His work ethic doesn't just speak loud and clear - it roars doped up fraud.

Make no mistake: Armstrong is quitting because anti-doping officials have assembled too many former teammates ready to testify against him, and too much physical evidence, for him to overcome in a fair forum. Much as fans of Armstrong -- and I count myself among them -- wish it weren't so, the greatest cyclist of all time isn't. He is a cheat

Ouch, that's gotta sting.

As an American tax payer ... WHAT A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY.

Interesting article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ot...ng-who-may-get-his-Tour-de-France-titles.html

Are they really going to strip him of all his titles to give them to other known dopers? Disqualify all of the known dopers and give the titles to guys who came in 20th (even though they were also clearly doping and just not caught)? There are no good options.

Oh and you've got to LOVE the onion:

http://www.theonion.com/articles/nondoping-cyclists-finish-tour-de-france,2268/

Tell it to your boyfriend. He's the one who's been dragging it out fighting the PROCEDURE instead of the evidence.

If he'd manned up and gone to arbitration to fight the evidence it would have all been over by now.

USADA should go after him to recover your wasted money.

BD go back and delete 8 or 9 earlier posts and you will again be upon the throne.

Oh dear another who bought the wrong myth. Ah well there is another one coming soon, stay tuned.

Are you speaking generally or do you have an individual in mind?

I have to say that I cannot believe that some people are clinging onto the wreckage.

I didn't call you a fan, intern or sychophant, but the fact you claim you are a "critic of media politics in this country" - yet you only critique on Armstrong, contradicts that you are being objective.

What?
Today is effectively a confirmation of what I already know - but for most average sports followers the fact that Armstrong has had all the Tour titles stripped and has a lifetime ban is big news - which is why it has been covered so extensively.

At present there are I think 3 supporters still posting here. But in the non-cycling community he still has tons of support but they are not die-hard and each and every day from here on out it all falls apart. And I will personally be entertained by the perpetual death by 1000 cuts. It will continue from now until long after he is gone.

And the real die hards just keep twisting themselves into more and more knots to keep the delusion alive. Just like Lance.

sorry people, but this does not change the fact that he won 7 Tour's, he was the one that pedaled every stroke, he covered attacks, he attacked, he crossed every finish line, he stood on the champs elysees 7 times in the yellow jersey, you simply can not take that away from him no matter how loud you scream 'cheater' now.
I don't like Lance, nor have I ever been a fan, but this is very detrimental to cycling and helps no one, thanks Travis Tygart and POS rat fink Landis

Yes, he did all OF THIS....by CHEATING!!! If it were you in second place all those times, I bet you'd be singing a different tune?

Oh, and LANCE "took away those 7 titles" when he chose to dope...WE didn't do anything, HE did it to himself. Can't take away something you don't have, right?

I am sure Nike will have another mythical athlete somewhere.

Remember Tiger Woods was going to change the world!

Even as good people resisted the temptation to cheat at post count sniping, there were others that had no qualms. Everyone was forced to delete or they would not be in the game at all. I was not able to get a date to my high school prom. I too eventually gave in to deleting, but it was only to level the playing field and regain my rightful place at the 10,000th post. There was no unfair advantage. I feel ashamed of what I did.

I will be starting a youth team where members can post in full confidence that they do not have to delete prior posts to achieve post position goals.

No, you didn't, but others have in recent posts. Rather than "clog the toilet" it's easier to redact.

You have no idea what I critique on; and in this forum alone I have been explicitly critical of all manner of media within the politics' threads.

I would call today a vindication of what you know. There's been nothing confirmed beyond what has already been available. (Who's gonna fire up the Levi fairness fund?)

He has had the tour titles stripped by the USADA. And, again, for the "casual" fan, when there's no remotely acceptable resolution to the award of titles for that decade (Klo (umlaut)den under investigation)....

How harshly do you think the casual fan is going to judge that.
