Good. So when the interesting action (i.e. the climb) is over, we'll get to see what's happening.Dekker_Tifosi said:If I read well than officially they begin at 22:00 CET (14:00 local time colorado)

Thanks. I so yearn for a Tour of the Americas - north to south, south to north, doesn't matter. I see this race, and the ToC, the ToU and many other 1-2 week stages races as a stepping stone to that goal. If they can succeed locally then a combination thereof can succeed globally.just some guy said:just joking Ben your enthusiasm for the event is rubbing off would like to see it.

Anyone know the rational behind this ?
Verses thinks this will be a boring stage. USAPCC thinks we will be inattentive.Deagol said:That sucks !!!!!

this_is_edie said:Yeah I don't get it. They must have cameras on the race anyway in order to do the primetime recap show. I assume it has to do with commentators - or the lack thereof - as P&P only do the last 2 hours on versus live. I guess they don't want to show the feed with no commentating. Shame.
Deagol said:I'm sure those of us that have done bike races can relate to the true sounds of the peleton: the wind, the spin of wheels, and guys yelling at each other. I was just thinking it would be cool to try putting microphones on the bikes and let us listen to that instead of Phil, Paul, & Bob. Maybe it would be like tecno/trance music instead of a grating infomercial...
Independence or Cottonwood?Deagol said:We are heading up this evening to camp out and watch Stage 2 in person. I guess that will have to be compensation for missing the stage today.
this_is_edie said:mics on the camera guys would pick up a lot of that. Of course they probably don't want the Utah mess where the mic picked up the camera guy/moto driver swearing, a lot.
Deagol said:Haha, that could be true. Funny thing is that the racers swear a lot, too.
Even to watch this part of the stage with no sound at all would be better than this. I was really looking forward to see them flying down the west side of the pass. I was wonderering how fast they could really go...

To draw a finer point, the lost opportunity is not so much getting a greater populace to watch; it is denying those of us already interested, the full possible coverage. We are the most powerful advocates. Word of mouth is the best selling tool , and the re-tell the heroics of what transpired are amplified when Cyclingnews or VeloNews articles are backed up by us, the fans. We here in this CN forum are all passionate advocates for road cycling. But our passion is subdued when marketing concerns preempt live/internet coverage that we yearn for.this_is_edie said:I agree. The beginning of a stage with all the attacks is always fun to watch and I wanted to see the climb up Monarch. I can deal with no audio. They lost a golden opportunity to get people watching.
Even Colombians don't commit total suicide. They do have some sort of racing intelligence.Deagol said:looks like the break is nearing the top. there is a turn-off for the ski area on the right and then a little further up at the summit, a gondola to take sight-seers to an overlook.
I was thinking that the descent would be fast since the road is pretty wide and not super twisty.
Edit: I expected more Columbians near the front as they got to the top of the pass today.. looks like only one in the break.
