Yeah, I guess hundreds of thousands of peoplecan't handle it

Don't judge by what you saw on TV: (from the comments on the Velonews article)

"The TV show on Sunday was just pathetic, making what sounds like in most other categories was a very successful debut event, look pretty lame on the tube for all the fans that couldn't be there to see it live."

Looks like a lot of towns want in on the race. It could easily go to 7 or 8 days although I'm not so sure if it's a good idea to get too ambitious too quickly or not.

There certainly are no shortage of great host towns/potential stage routes, especially if they get something out in the San Juan's (Durango to Telluride? Yowza!) Unfortunately some of the best roads/passes out on the west slope are also far away from the population centers. Can't have a world class race without sponsors.

Hope you weren't talking about me. Because I too have talked to pros who were in that race, they think the people who are saying some of the crap on these board are nuts.

I was at the start line in Golden, up on the fence...
The energy was fantastic, the pros seemed to be having a great time...it was really hot but the morale and crowd were amazing.

Every cyclist I've heard from seemed pretty stoked, enjoying the ride and fans, scenery. It did not sound like a cake-walk...

Laurens Ten Dam stood on the stage and declared it a teriffic race. He was one of many...including Cadel who said how much he enjoyed racing in Colorado.
yes, some of the climbs could have been put in a different place for more exciting finishes and GC shakeup, but that can evolve.

Listen to Chris Baldwin on the cn vid...he's elated. I don't think one rider found it boring and pointless.

Totally different in person than the somewhat dreary and spotty coverage...that part needs work.
All in all a good time in the race season before worlds and a race with a future. :)
It took me two days to come down from my high at seeing the riders and I got some super amazing pix...
