Is it just me or does it seem inappropriate for CN to simply transplant the contents of a forum thread (and from the much-maligned Clinic of all places!) onto the homepage?

Not to mention, I don't see how that does anything to encourage more informative and and candid exchanges within the forum. Of course anyone can read the contents of the forum, but doesn't this cross a line?

The fact is, much of the content of The Clinic is simply not ready for prime time due to the predictably hysterical response that much of it would generate if splashed across the homepage. I have to believe that "leaving it in the forum" is the best way to encourage useful content in the future.

Gee whiz though, I suppose this means that The Clinic is more than just 12 basement dwellers after all.

Btw, did CN reach out to JV before openly broadcasting his posts to the not-always-so-informed masses?

This thread is bizarre. The news piece was written from stuff that happened in this very forum. It's a forum thread about a news article about a thread in the same forum. :D

Now we need a news piece about this thread :D

If nothing else just to confirm that he wrote the posts and it wasn't someone who hacked his account.

I too was surprised to read a clinic thread in a story, but it is news.

I have a few thoughts about the matter.

First, I should have added some perspective to the OP. I realize it is yesterday's "news", but found it noteworthy that it is now on the CN main page, where the casual observer may see it. I find that of some note precisely because if you didn't read the forum, you'd never know what Vaughters said.

Three very prominent US cyclists, all three tied to the LA investigaton and USADA sanctions, yet not a peep about them being outed by their own team manager (and in the case of Tommy D. with some detail). Not elsewhere in the media, not even elsewhere in the forum.

THAT I find compelling, and worthy of it's own thread.

Yeah I get that, there's a worthy discussion to be had here, I just thought it was funny.

Not sure how I feel about CN picking up posts by forumers and using them in their stories. I thought there were other occasions where this was done, and it was pointed out that it only happened in a thread that was specifically marked as being destined to be used as source material for a CN piece, and that they'd never do it with normal threads. This is different. I suppose it's still CN's forum and they can do what they want with what's posted here, but I fear there's a breach of trust here, if they didn't approach JV to ask for permission.

I'm worried that this will cause JV to shy away from forums forever. Then again, I suppose he only posts stuff he doesn't mind going public.

I would say I share your opinion (on the different nature of a forum, as well, which even open to the public is often a more "confidential" space in its usage). My first thought was that surely they asked him permission for this: i'm not up to date on the privileges of posters here but who's to say that Vaughters wouldn't decide to delete a message the day after writing it for whatever reason?

Then again, it's somewhat big news. I'd think a journalist could maybe run with this in name of the Truth®.

Surely the headline should be:

"Tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy monkeys cause DS to out his team"

NB - As I asked some of the questions I am not that phased about them being used as the source material - and tbh the thread was linked to. I think looking at the way the article is structured - JV's quotes are there in full but our questions are not. Of course it only then gives half the side of the conversation.

well there is no denying that JV said those things. He's not stupid, he knew what he was writing when he responded to those threads. It was only ever going to be a matter of time until what he wrote hit a more mainstream media outlet than a forum.

Remember folks, he has stated already that he will be revealing all in the future, so all of that information coming out now is only the start. You could even see it as a preliminary warning to others that the time is now to think about coming clean. He's left the ball in the court of CVV, DZ & TD now.

I have a feeling those guys were ready to tell all even before JV posted. They're probably waiting until the USADA vs Armstrong has been sorted out and the USADA are ready to start handing out the sanctions for the witnesses.

It's not like CN hacked into JV's email or listened to to phone conversations.
Anything posted on on a forum owned and operated by CN is fair game.
Given that JV spoke about riders who have never openly admitted to doping, I'd say it is definitely a story that needs to be told.
After all, if CN didn't do it, someone else would.

You could take that bet to Vegas.

I agree with you regarding plucking "material" from the forum (and in particular the speculative clinic), but when the source is Vaughters himself then I think some leeway should be allowed. JV knows what he posts here hits Twitter in about 3 nanoseconds anyway...

I think because "Fans" are not afraid to ask the hard questions. Must admit that JV is ripping off the band-aid.

Looking forward to reading the book by Hamilton.

Bruyneel almost killed him as well with the transfusions. Long story for another time. TommyD’s ex wrote about it on her blog and took it down.

Kirstin's Corner (or Kristin's) ????

Met her once pre-divorce. Very nice gal. Sad story.

Seems like Tommy D was caught in a bad climate, what with being on same team as Lance. Also seems and now wants to be, or is, clean.

Never mind the whole right to use a forumer's material angle, it's a pretty bad piece.
Jaksche told Cyclingnews this week that he was unable to get a new contract after his ban expired due to hypocrisy within the sport. Vaughters, however, strongly denied that.
He didn't. He said omertà wasn't the reason why Garmin didn't sign him, he didn't say he wasn't blacklisted. In fact, he agreed he was, at least on Twitter.

The article also fails to mention the bit about JV expecting ex-dopers he signs to confess to WADA. Although, to be fair, some further questions were raised about that and he didn't get to answer them.
