Victor langelotti - Freed from desire

It is time for the best transfer of the 24-25 off season to have his own thread.

With his uphill sprint today in the Queen stage of tour Poland, he took his first world tour victory. With such a long uphill sprint, attacking the favourites group 500m from the line, he made the likes of primoz Roglic and ajelandro balaverde look like cyclotourists. Amazing performance.

Victor langelotti made history. He is the first monagasque cyclist to win at world tour level.

A few eyebrows were raised when he signed for the ineos team, but those of us who enjoy a stage race in Asia, or the volta Portugal, saw what was cooking.

After a relatively uneventful junior and u23s career, Victor spent 7 years at burgos bh, and for the first 4 years he had no results, he did hardly any races. He looked destined for retirement.

What nobody knew was that Victor had a debilitating playstation addiction, staying up to 3,4,5 am playing FIFA matches instead of recovering from training. Addiction is a serious issue. Victors career is a testament to that, but also testament to the fact that addiction can't be overcome. There is a light in the end of the tunnel. He is a big inspiration

In 2022, at the age of 27, things started to turn, and the first pro win came, a stage win in Portugal.

Since then, he has become one of the most exciting unpolished climbing gems in the sport of cycling. And now , with the support of a proper team in ineos, the world is his oyster.

Victor likely will lose the tour of Poland in the final day, his GC lead is very slim over Brandon McNutly, but this will only add to his mythical nature.

Victor Langellotti’s dramatic account, “I had become aggressive.”

Reached by Relevo, Victor Langellotti recounted the problems he had as a result of video game addiction: “I no longer lived with my father and there was no one to control me. I started by playing 2-3 hours a day and got to the point where I was doing practically nothing else but playing games. I no longer had a social life-I was playing FIFA from breakfast until the time I went to bed at 5 a.m. the next morning.”

“I had become an aggressive person. Every time I lost a game I would get angry and break things. By now I was addicted: if they took away my Playstation, I would take the personal computer. It was my girlfriend who moved me: “Wake up, what are you doing with your life?” she repeated to me. I had fulfilled my dream of bike racing and was throwing it in the dustbin.”

Fortunately, Victor was then able to get back on the bubble thanks to the bicycle: “My father called me to propose that I participate in the 2020 European Championships. I weighed 50 pounds more than I do now. I decided to set that race as my goal and get there as best I could. So, I sold the Play, Xbox, Switch, and even the computer.”

In the end, a top 5 on GC and a stage win on the Queen stage was a fantastic performance at a WT stage race. Very happy for victor. A lot of people doubted his ability at world tour level.

If he goes to Vuelta, completing a grand tour will be great for his development, and he's already 30, so there is not loads of time to develop.

At the same time doing smaller races could give more opportunities for wins which will increase his stock.

Interesting to see what happens the rest of the season.
