Not his fault Froome and Contador fall off their bikes, Froome skips TDF, Contador goes for the double, Wiggins doesn't show up in TDF 2012 form and Cadel gets older.

Not his fault, that doesn't matter. What matters is that the fields were weak every time. Cyclists become bigger legends when they beat the best there is. Nobody remembers Pereiro as a Tour winner. Well, hardly anyone.

Contador beat the best stage racer of last year. That makes him the best this year. Go the cyclingtorrents.nl and look at the poll of what they thought was the best GT. Real cycling fans love watching the best cyclists race against each other, it doesn't matter if it's in the Tour, Giro or Vuelta.

Crashes can happen to anyone. Just look at Nibali in the Giro di Lombardia of 2010. Or his crash in the Giro d'Italia of that year. Or his crash this year in some minor Italian race that screwed up his preperation for the Worlds.

Nibali beat Mosquera, Uran and Peraud for his GT wins. That's the real sad thing here lol.

Nibali only wins when competition is extremely weak.

Never looked at it that way, it's quite shocking really that a rider like Nibali joined the elite few that have won every grand tour.

Contador has won 8 GTs.

;)

Peraud doesn't even have 8 wins in his career.

No one is denying AC was a great GT rider. AC was just not as great as Nibali in 2014 Tour of France, period.

That's why Contador dropped Nibali on the first mountain stage without even trying very hard.

this is bull****. Contador dropped Nibali on a sprint. The same way he got dropped by Valverde in the first uphill sprint at the Vuelta, and everybody saw how much the relationship between their strength was different in the real mountains.

No, it isn't. Contador thought he was going for the stage win, but when he saw someone was ahead he decided to go for some extra seconds.

Since when is Contador a sprinting champ? Lol.

Nibali got exposed there.

When has Nibali ever climbed at Contador's level? Even Evans could distance Peraud for at least 10 minutes.

Contador has always been good in uphill sprinting, just as much as Nibali has always sucked at them. Or do you have any good example of Nibali winning or even contesting an uphill sprint in a GT?
Nobody denies that AC was in great form, but Nibali was in great form too. None of this can be seen in a 2-3 kms climb, otherwise, as I said, you have to explain to me how Valverde managed to drop Contador at the Vuelta.
As for your last question, they didn't race any GT together since 2011 right? Outside GTs, I'd say Tirreno 2013.

Contador broke his tibia, he wasn't in his best form at the Vuelta.

Did Nibali win T-A with a 2 minute lead and two stage wins? Because that's Contador's level. Nibali won that T-A on an extremely hilly stage, he lost in the mountains to Froome.

Since when El P is back on the forum?
Missed ya man.

Can't believe we're still talking Contador vs Nibbles on this topic though.

so what. He was still better than Valverde in the mountains, and worse in an uphill sprint. According to your logic it must be ridicolous.

Sadly that was Contador's level in 2013...

Valverde already rode a GT, and gradually got worse. Contador recovered from an injury, and gradually got better.

What's not to get? Plus, unlike Contador, Valverde is a true specialist in uphill sprints.

no, mate. He didn't gradually got better. He went from being dropped by Valverde on August 28th, to drop him on August 31st. That's not gradual.

That was Valverde getting a lot worse (hello weather). Otherwise he would've distanced Quintana and Purito there.

But hey, I actually forgot that. Congratz.
How can you? All of us Nibbles fans must remember his great first GT win.

So Nibali sucks at uphill sprints, but apparently is good enough to beat Valverde on that stage.

Your argument makes no sense.

That was because Valverde sucked on that stage. Bad weather again.

Well, Porte was also good enough to beat Valverde there iirc. So maybe Piti wasn't that great there. But btw my point was actually that Nibali being there with AC on that kind of climb is very good news for him, so you can take it like that.

@Netserk
I'm not a Nibs fan, so I can forget that stuff. I didn't even watch that Vuelta, RAI didn't broadcast it and my internet connection was awful those days.
