A headwind goes both ways. No gc riders behind would commit and chase in a headwind, only doms would commit. In a dom vs. dom fight, the Movistar ones would win big.
You're right, maybe he wasn't confident enough to go all out on a long range attack.

"I'm very straightforward: I never expect anybody to wait for me when I stop. Many times, I've fallen or punctured and just set off again," Nibali said, adding with a pinch of sarcasm: "I don't know, maybe we could distort cycling and have a referee who stops the race in front and behind ... I don't know what to say. This is my opinion, even if many people might attack me for saying this."
_O_ True racer.

Indeed, kick 'fair play' out of cycling, it really doesn't add anything to the race apart from boredom. Give me Astana and Contador 2015 anyday.

Yep, Nibali is spot on. Never waiting is the only fair option. Everyone knows then where they stand and everyone is well aware of the consequences of crashing, taking a s**t or whatever else.

In a situation like today riders would lose out from waiting - just because Dumoulin needed a s**t. Nibali probably wouldn't have won the stage, Zakarin and Pozzovivo may not have distanced Kruijswijk. It's just unfair to make everyone wait, simply because Dumoulin's body can't handle high altitude well.

+1 to Nibali, I aym just sick of stopping peleton or slowing down rythm for every piece of problem everyone have
Like fellow said Chapeau to Astana and Contador 2015, best GT of last years

Nah, he's always been borderline usportsmanlike.

Like that ridicolous car hanging chase in, what was it, the worlds?
Next time you'll advocate stopping because the pink jersey has cramps? Or because he bonks? Stop, give him some food please! Anyway this is a ridiculous discussion, Tom was OK with what happened, they waited a bit and Zakarin attacked. Maybe you should post in the Zakarin thread.

Kick it out of sports in general.
There are rules. You follow them, all good. You don't, you get sanctioned.

Nibbles has a legitimate shot at winning this now. However, I rate his chances below those of Quintana and Pooping Toms.

Quintana responded well to Nibali's digs and probably had more in the tank left at the top of the last climb. But he didn't look super strong. And we still haven't seen Dumoulin cracking, so maybe he won't (I mean, he cracked one up today, but I don't think we can use that to predict that he will lose minutes in the coming stages). This is definitely game on though.

Of course he doesn't expect anyone to wait for him, he knows that he can just grab on to a car for a pull back up to the front.

Nibble should shut his mouth. His is the biggest non-doping cheater in the peloton in the last 10 years. Last time he was in similar situation he took a car ride to improve the situation..

Name me one cyclist who hasn't done something similar like that.

He just had the misfortune it was caught on camera.

lol, how can you even attempt to defend that

This older Nibali has really turned himself into a diesel climber; its quite obvious he can't reach the w/kg of the best riders on easier stages, but after a long day in the saddle, in high altitude, in the 3rd week, over 2 big climbs beforehand its a different ballgame. His power output doesn't decrease as drastically on such efforts as others.

No surprise he isn't anywhere to be seen in weeklong stage races no more against good competition, despite possibly being in good shape, as he simply needs the opposition to tire. Then he can strike and strike he certainly did.

Don't know if he was ever not considered a diesel climber.

I am not able to speak for others, but it seems to me that rather than defending the act, it was Nibali (and other riders in general) that were being defended. It was a foul or an unfair act that should be penalized, but it is not the basis for forming an entire judgment of Nibali or any other rider. Or so it seems to me.
