The race doctor who gave him the bad news and then accompanied him to the hospital in Grenoble said:

"It is a compression of 26% of the tenth vertebra. It is a fracture that needs time to consolidate, it will take 2 to 4 weeks to stop before we can evaluate the gradual recovery of the activity"

No way he can have optimal prep for Worlds, even if he does manage to get there :(

Nibali will skip Vuelta and he'll have no chances for World Championships. Wtf.
The entire cycling season is completely destroyed by this accident. That's a *** shame.

I refuse to panic so soon. Better to wait for updates along the way. At some point this year he said that if he had to choose between another Tour victory and the worlds he would go for the rainbow jersey. Maybe it will all come good.

I'm not panicking either.

It'll be massively disappointing if he's ruled out of the worlds (or out of being in proper shape for them) because of this but there's still plenty of time. My gut feeling is that it will suck to deal with but if it was going to take too long to recover from he'd never have been able to finish the stage no matter how much adrenaline was pumping through his body.

Thank god for the MSR heroics as even if this screws the rest of his year at least he's got something big done.

Complete opposite luck to the 2016 Giro. I don't wish it to him but it had to happen at some time

How is Kruijswijk riding into a wall of snow, all by himself, comparable to a spectator causing a crash? One is a *** up by Kruijswijk himself and had nothing to do with luck (staying on the bike is quite an essential part of cycling), the other is a *** spectator and is real bad luck for Nibali.

When you have a MSR on your 2018 palmares the season isn't completely destroyed. 98% of pros would consider that a successful season! But Nibali is in the 2% that wants More. I Really hope he can make the Worlds with form!

Slongo just told RAI that Nibali will ride the Vuelta and the Worlds. 15 days without riding and then hell start training again.

Did he by any chance say something about 'going for stage wins in the 3rd week'?

Calm the *** down. Didn't I tell you on a previous page it was a stupid Dutch fan and I'm sorry that it happened.

I'm just saying, with all the luck he had in the past it could had to happen at some point. He can't do anything about it, that's just bad luck.

But Nibali fans especially always attributed this to some sort of skill. Which it isn't, it's just luck, and it sucks.

Watch your words the next time.

Good to hear he makes the Vuelta btw, that will be perfect preparation for the worlds. He's my absolute top favorite for that

I m not watching my words sorry. Your comment is entirely unneccesary and unfair to nibali.
First of all i never ever talked about nibali voodoo and i did that for a reason.
Second you should really listen to kruijswijck and hear how he admits himself that he was in trouble on agnello.
You could see the momentum shift on the agnello. His own words were I *** it up. This was fatigue and panic because nibs started to accelerate right before the top.
Kruijswijck crash was NOT because of bad luck.

Total gibberish. While Kruijswijk admitted he was at his limit. He wasn't panicking or anything in the descent. But it's another discussion. You speak with emotion more than reason.

Still no reason at all to call people words. I've reported you with good reason

There is a difference between crashing because someone lacks bike handling skills and being taken out by a stupid fan. Nibalis crash in the Olympics was caused by himself...yesterdays wasn`t. Kruijswijk crashed because he couldn`t handle the pressure downhill and admited himself that he was at the limit.
I would argue that Froome is luckier than Nibali when it comes to GTs. He seems to crash a lot and rarely suffers from race ending injuries. Froomes Tour could have ended on stage but he was lucky enough to barely miss a pillar after his crash.
