Last year he was pretty good in this race. It was the first time after Alpe d'Huez that I thought "the old Nibali is getting back".

Nothing special yesterday, the post-race video didn't show the peloton on the climbs. He went afterwards to Milan for the Inter-AC football match.

Apparently for Giro dell'Emilia all three GT winners from this year are expected: Carapaz, Bernal and Roglic.

Still, I think the WC in this weather would have suited him fine.
Not winning maybe, but you never know...

After Rio and today, next year when Nibali will start his solo descending from the last Petite Forclaz, Cassani will most likely get out of the team car and hide under a bush.

Team for Emilia: Vincenzo Nibali, Dylan Teuns, Yukiya Arashiro, Damiano Caruso, Antonio Nibali, Hermann Pernsteiner and Andrea Garosio. Teuns leader with Vincenzo. Most likely (-Yukiya) this will be the team for Lombardia, not too good but that's what it is available.

First year without a GT or Monument win?!
Looked okay early, but then really bad at the end of the penultimate lap.

Didn't see it.

Nibs does know how to tank his races, but it's been a long season, and Giro/Tour was probably simply too much.

Clearly not in the shape to win next week, unfortunately. Maybe some craziness on the Sormano descent, but otherwise I don't see it this year.

There is still a Monument to be ridden. He doesn't look good enough to win it, but it's Not over until it's Over!

He didn't look particularly good, but Lombardia is a very different race: endurance matters a lot more, climbs are longer, tactics can play a role.
He won't be the favourite, but he still has a shot.

It has emerged (reported before today's race) that he underwent some unconventional pain therapy in Aquila hospital in September.
