vino is a legend and an absolute champion. like him or not a race was always more exciting when vino was around.

yesterday i was cheering for costa to win the stage and for vino to get the yellow. a bloody shame it didn't happen.

Alexandre Vinokourov was transported last night by plane to Paris. He was operated successfully during the night, at the Hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière by Professor Yves Catonné.



It was a complex fracture of the head of right femoral, the operation went well.



Tomorrow, the wife of Alexandre who was in Kazakhstan will join him at his bedside.



All messages of sympathy are welcome and will be sent to him.

It was heartbreaking to see him come out of the woods with his team holding him up...

he is a true warrior. Three months in bed...that will be a new challenge for him. Lucky to be here in this world though.

Glad to hear he's ok. That picture of him was classic and so typical. TdF will be more boring without him that's for sure - we need more riders like Vino and Johnny.

I hope that Vino rethinks his retirement (if he's able to) and gives the GTs another shot next year. Don't know how likely that is, after that sort of injury, though.

I find it ironic that in a thread entitled "Vino comeback thread" we are now discussing the end of his career and the unfortunate crash that will most likely end it

Kidding aside...I will miss Vino. It shouldn't of ended that way for him. I always pictured him capping his career with an attack that absolutely shreds the field, not being pulled out of ditch. I admit a loss of respect for him during and after his doping scandal, but racing wasn't the same without him.
