You don't get it and you will never get it. Cycling isn't a sport based on points. It's a sport based on emotions and passion.

Those rankings have never had much importance in cycling. Like I said, this isn't tennis. Riding consistently throughout the season doesn't necessarily make you the best rider of the season. Valverde might have been very consistent in 2014, but there's simply no way he was the number one rider that year.

Couldn't agree more.

He won the the title that year. You don't have to agree with how they do it, but it is their sport and that's how they choose to do it. Yes most people don't pay it any attention anyway.

That is true. That award goes to AC.

True, the world ranking is a good indicator, nothing more. And even then it is influenced by riders who care much about it like GVA.

AC and AV share the spoils for that year imo, with Nibali being 3rd...

The WT ranking and current world ranking aren't even a good indication. They're beyond terrible. And I agree with Pisti that this isn't tennis and there's no ranking possible that would reflect it all perfectly, but at least it could be way better than this.

Literally the only thing I agree on in that ranking is how winning GTs and Monuments compare to each other.

Yeah the ranking is not perfect and not even very important. But if it is not a good indicator at least, why do often the best riders come out on top? Yes, occasionally riders like Gerrans, GvA, Porte and Kristoff will come out too high. But all in all it is pretty okay I believe.

But indeed, it is not tennis and current rankings shouldn't mean anything.
