Intresting to see yesterdays winner, Kessiakoff, with his briliant TT-performance ended 2 minutes behind today on this very short (yet steep) hill. It is really up and down for the swede.

and it is logical he is paying for yesterday's big effort. what's wrong with that?

Why? Its an acceptable result for someone like him, he was never a great climber anyway. Everyone who finished above him in the stage have some kind of climbing pedigree. It is no big deal to lose 2 minutes on a 13% climb when you have no big incentive.
Kessiakoff has the pedigree too. He simply had no reason to go all out today.

There was a big crash...they may have been injury victims that limped in but that is just a possibility.

The autobus on a "flat" stage is really quite small, isn't it?

Dropped as soon as the peloton started chasing the break.

Of course he has the pedigree. He was pretty good at last years Vuelta, showed fine sensations this Tour and did a fantastic ride on a hilly TT. I didnt expected him to be up there with the best but to have found his rhytm at least.

Ehm, why should it be anything wrong with that? Its not like i am attacking him or anything here.

you got it totally wrong, hadn't contador decided to take the chance and increase the gap on piti and froome (which he needs even less then purito does) they would have been caught because purito wouldn't have pushed one bit.

respectfully disagree. rod maximized advantage by putting himself in position to win and gain an immediate extra 12 seconds. that on top of making conti work allowed him to drop conti.

if he had pulled conti up the whole climb conti would have come around him, taken the red jersey and i doubt very much rod would have gained more than he did on valverde and froome.

and to "save" his effort for the high mountains is -- frankly -- ridiculous. this is where he can get an advantage, by sprinting at the top of a MTF. he needs to gain time on conti more than anyone else.

not saying he is going to win, but he maximized his possible gains and his tactic from now on must be follow conti -- never ever do any work and then outsprint him for the bonus. that is the only way. no work. make the others do everything. save himself so he has the chance to last longer to put himself in position to sprint past at the end.

Great ride by JRod and who took seconds as expected. Strong and clever ride by Contador too. He worked to keep Froome and Valverde gapped so he could at least get 2ns place and thereby not lose to many secs to JRod. Saxo Bank needs to step up saturday and put maximum pressure in the first half of the last climb to wear out JRod on the longer climbs before Berti attacks.

Saxo should just sit tight with AC and protect him. Sky will do what you are suggesting for SBTB and they will do it better.

Much like the springboard on the L'Alpe d'Huez stage last year, Saxo should just have one or two ready to go with AC when he decides to blast off -- help him get away before he goes on the offensive.

Just rewatched the final 3Km, Contador dident look like he cared much that Rod won, looks like they spoke a few secs after first attack? could they have made a deal?

I noticed Contador looking over his shouldent just before he attacked, and shortly after. Dident look like he tried to follow him.

Ok.. Why shouldn't he try to follow Purito's wheel? If he could then why shouldn't he?

Exactly. Sure he doesn't pip him at the line, but he probably gets 's.t' and is only 5" down instead of the 13" that resulted.

Contador knows exactly what it takes over 3 weeks, i think he is in cruise control, doesnt even have to put time into Purito on Saturday, plenty of time for that,he's holding all the cards IMO

Imo he has to attack Purito on stage 14. It may take several stages to break him. If he waits till say Monday he only has two chances left.

Robert Gesink is back.

“It went well today. This climb actually suited me well. We were dropped off nicely by the team. Great work, since half the peloton wanted to start up here too. It was simply a bunch sprint to the base of the final climb. At first, I just had to get into my own rhythm, but in the second half, things kept improving. By the final kilometre, I started moving up. It got better and better for me near the finish. I’m very pleased. I, of course, had been hoping for this, but hadn’t expected it. Because after yesterday’s time trial, my legs were feeling heavy. It was my first long time trial in a long while.

In one of the videos on the rabosport site there was talk about the mechanics equipping smaller gears for the riders, but Gesink wasnt mentioned. So I assume he had the normal gearing he usually does and the rest of the top riders moved to that level too, so he finally rides a 'normal' gear and does this well. I hope he realizes too. :)

If anybody was wondering why Jeannesson went backwards so soon after his 'attack' today, his lowest gear was 39x25.
That's hilarious.
