Ofcourse he has to be lucky and have perfect circumstances. Hell even Nibali needed luck to win the Vuelta (very poor field). Evans, Sastre, etc... But I think he used up all his bad luck by now.. :)

as I've often said. bad luck isn't something that overcomes you. it has a reason and until you understand that, it will keep repeating itself as it does with gesink and many other riders.

Yup, an average climber who is 5th in La Vuelta, who's back from a very serious injury last year.

Yep.. In a much stronger field than 2009 when he was 'stronger' uphill and the competing field was much weaker..
Then again, it's again Piti18 and Ryo, so no suprise there :D

But whatever. He is indeed climbing worse at the moment, but his results are better and there has been no time trial or serious climb yet. I say he's doing fine. He'll be back at his best next year then he's going to raise some eyebrows here.

Stop hating on my hating, haters. The facts happen to agree with me. Gesink climbs about as well as Niemec right now. And that was the day when he claimed to have really good legs ....and got 9th on the stage. IF he puts in a very good TT, but continues to suck in the remaining mountain stages, then it should be obvious to anyone that he has changed as a rider. Though I'm sure there will always be blind fans who have a thing for would-be GT specialists like Gesink, Brajkovic or Kreuziger, who would be better off focusing on smaller races, or going the super domestique route. Anyway.

As for the 2009 Vuelta, the field wasn't weaker at all, unless you're stuck on names. Contador and Froome have been pretty disappointing thus far. The power numbers seem to reflect that.

And that goes for Soler and other Colombians as well? So Uran has to blame himself for his flat tire and Soler himself for his coma

You should facepalm yourself

Hesjedal only got 5 seconds on Purito in the TTT, he didn't win it because of that. Purito was just worse than Hesjedal.

Wow I thought Garmin won with more than that, my bad.

yes. it counts for all. at leats soler learned his lesson, that was very extreme, and retired. however painful it is for his talent and potential. in gesinks case a slong as he addresses it to bad luck he will keep crashing.

this is not just a lesson in cycling but in life. see something for what it is or else you won;t advance and keep repeating things in circles.

The last climb is longer than 1.1 km, if you look at profile it's already therefore uphill at 5 % orso.

I don't know if GC riders will do something but they might react when for example Gilbert goes orso. Let's hope so :D

Looking foward to today's finale. One of the few unpredictable stages (maybe the only one?) of this Vuelta.

Yes it really is. A sprinter might win, or a puncher.

A GC-rider might attack, real fun :p

11 kms to go (according to my feed) and this is post #92.
It must have been a great stage.
edit: Last 6 kms should be fun though.

I am kind of surprised, especially after how competitive it has been so far.
