Maybe, a thing like that is going to happen. Looks like the big Asturian mountains are not going to be in 2014 and I think in 2015, 2016 will be Cuito again and new ones.

My thought is Angliru wasn't planned to be in Vuelta 2013 at the beginning but when Unipublic was creating the route they saw there was a possibility of a big final in the penultimate stage in Asturias. So they thought Angliru needed a big tribute being at the end of Vuelta for the first time like is going to happen.

i don´t like Angliru the last day, I hope at least a good stage the day before. I fthey finish in Oviedo they can design a very good stage with Linares-Tenebredo and finish in Violeo-Naranco.

By the way, I would be happy if the stage in Andorra or Cataluña is a great mountain stage.

I know we need a miracle , but I think it is a good idea to apply for things using internet and it is a very good stage ( if Unipublic wanted it would be a star stage of grand Tours ).

Well, if this mountainous route become reality and with all the big guns or prospects of pervious Vuelta editions either peaking for the Tour or likely to be super domestiques at France (Quintana, Uran etc) this could be the famous return of "Il Picolo Principe" as a grand tour challenger couldn't it?

Do anybody now what's Cunego planned shedule for next year and if he's peaking for the Vuelta? I mean c'mmon Lampre would be silly to not send him there, this is maybe the most suited parcours to him since the Giro 2004. But maybe Lampre will just waste their time with Scarponi at il Giro again.

Otherwise. If we really got a parcours with all these ramps just in the end. Is there anybody who see's a realistic chance that Big Phil is trying to do a Di Luca? He mentioned before that he won't go to Itally or France after the spring so who knows. Still Gilbert winning a Grand Tour might be pretty unrealistic, but hell .... so did Laurent Jalabert, so did Sean Kelly. Wasn't Big Phil not even a future gt prospect when he started with fdjeux 10 years ago? So he should have this still inside elsewhere!

Since ASO bought part of them, why are they not using some french climbs? that way they will put at least one decent multiple-climbs-mountain stage.
And also Larrau, Portillon and PSMartin all have a spanish side.

If they use it to do a proper French-Basque stage with Errozate, Bagargui, Arnostegui and Burdinkurutxeta, or a proper French-Catalan stage with climbs like Descarga/Batère and Llosa, then fine.

If they use it to do a generic Tour de France stage with Aspin, Peyresourde and the fricking Tourmalet, then not fine. If I never see the Tourmalet climbed again it will be too soon.

Most likely because there's zero interest in France. The host towns have to pay for it, of course.

Yes of course. But still then. Some of them like Wiggins 2011 or Gesink 09 will be able to perform again, but others won't be able like Vandenbroek or Frank Schleck.

Sanchez also is one year older again and already had a little decrease in performance at the Tour in 2011.

Cobo, Anton, Uran, Rujano e.t.c are not very reliable as gt contenders. They could be very great, but also very poor. Most of the time if they are pretty decent it's fine

Then we have guys like Dombrowski, Anacona, maybe Atapuma, Henao, Kruijswijk who might be able to benefit from this, just like Cunego did in 2004. Maybe even someone I have totally forgotten to name yet.

Pellizotti would be a great contender. But I doubt Unipublic is gonna invite Androni. Would be a nice choice of course, better than Andalucia & Cofidis ....

To be fair Cofidis also honored the race in previous edition and always had something to add with Moncoutie. So maybe they will bring up someone new again this year.

Andalucia was always a big disappointment. Hopefully Unipublic invites Colombia or Androni instead of them. But I'm sure we will get Katusha, alltough Rodriguez won't ride in the end

so, can you recap all the rumours you got so far?

Considering the presentation is only 10 days away, there is a great deal of uncertainty.

What is known is there will be no less than 10, probably 11, possibly 12 MTFs. There's even been talk, in the press, of 13 MTFs.

Angliru will be climbed in the last stage before Madrid, and Unipublic have very clear intentions of toning the route down (even for their standards) in a clear effort to make the race stay close until Angliru. I'm not in the mood for a complete stage-by-stage description as you do with the Giro, but here's the overall picture I got from rumours and personal guesses:

Start in Galicia with a longer-than-usual TTT, then a couple of tricky stages ending in short Murs. One of them could feature the Mirador de Ezaro (2kms at 14%) the Vuelta unveiled this year, this time as a mountain pass, albeit quite far from the finish.

Moving down south with a stage finish around the Lago de Sanabria. Although they could do this:

Who knows if they'll decide to include some climbs before those MTFs... on the Dornajo stage they should at least climb Monachil first.

It's not clear where they'll head to after that. There's been talks of a finish on the short and steep Valdepeñas climb again, and then I've read rumours about a mysterious huge new climb overlooking the Mediterranean sea in Catalonia. Then we get to the Pyrenees, where the Andorran government has been publicly trying to get Unipublic to make a proper mountain stage out of the Collada de la Gallina stage, including more previous climbs than they used this year. Unipublic, of course, is pushing for the Andorrans to accept a washed down version.

After that, there have actually been rumours about a French stage, but that's all I know. Then there will be a finish on Formigal: http://www.altimetrias.net/public/formigal.gif with a couple of half-*** climbs before it at best.

The only ITT will probably take place around the beautiful town of Tarazona, and it will feature a hardish climb.

After that they'll head west towards Asturias, maybe stopping at Peña Cabarga on their way.

In any case, I'll be very surprised if we get even one real mountain stage. Actually scratch that, they might load up the Angliru stage, climbing San Lorenzo, Cobertoria and Cordal before it or something like that. Just because once you set out to do things as terribly as possible, you might as well go all the way.
