Sad and embarrassing to see Sunweb working so hard.
In situations like this, you always let the leader and his team chase.

It is perfectly understandable though, Contador is a immediate danger to Kelderman, not Froome. Also, riding to protect a podium finish for a rider like Kelderman is perfectly reasonable as well

C'mon, get real.
Contador is no threat to Froome. There's a tiny chance he might be a threat to Kelderman, so it's totally understandable that Sunweb is chasing.
"A tiny chance that he might be a threat to Kelderman" . HE IS a threat to Kelderman, if the pattern from the last few days repeat themselves tomorrow.

I get that Sky is chasing, but do they really have to use their whole team? Use one rider to control the gap and Sunweb will du the rest anyway. Not saying this is completely unreasonable, but it's just a little bit sad to watch.

To be fair they rested Poels & Nieve.

Moscon Puccio and Lopez were the riders rotating.

Sky was chasing anyways. Also, Kelderman could have tried to go with Contador as well if it is so important for him.

Gotta love Sunweb's pragmatism:

#LV2017 With 1 GC rider ahead of the group, @ChadHaga and @kraghsoren are leading the chase.

#LV2017 The rider is caught with 2km to go. Full gas in the bunch on the approach to the finish. @kraghsoren + @ChadHaga still at the front.

I genuinely dont remember seeing Meinjtes since the descent in Andorra on stage 3
Watch yesterday's stage again. Every time you saw a picture of the end of the peloton in the valley before the final climb you could see meintjes in the last position. And I'm not joking
If you're looking for Meintjes, 90% of the time you just have to look at the last rider in the GC group.

But what does the guy think? He really states the opinion he's riding well for a GT-leader of a WT-squad? I mean, the guy hasn't done anything besides following the whole damn race!

I honestly can't recall a more unattractive rider during my time as a cycling fan.
The thing is, the sponsors can hardly be happy about that. I mean, they get less screen time from Meintjes than from his teammates trying to protect his top 10 place. Can the WT points he gets for his results justify his riding style?

Indeed, and if it's for 8th place in GC, there's maybe some justice in what they're doing. But for a 14th place in GC? Really?

That's a ridiculous statement.
Sunweb and Kelderman have been clear that a podium is their aim.
Contador threatens the podium. So Contador threatens their aim. So they chase.
Simple logic. They don't care about Froome or Sky.

Contador isn't troubling the leader. Sky is fine with him taking 30 seconds. That doesn't hurt them. Sunweb might lose a podium if they lose 30 seconds. You only let the leader chase when the leader is indeed chasing. If Sunweb does nothing they lose double: Sky isn't wasting energy and the guy in the break is gaining time.

It amazes me how this cycling tactic 101 fails to register with half the people on this board...

He just did it for the fans

Fun to watch and indeed a show for the fans. As it was mostly downhill I am rather confident that he did not go to deep today, and it is always a good idea to wake those legs up before tomorrow, cant have sleepy legs up Angliru.. :D

They do know it logically makes sense, but don't want to miss out on an opportunity to call a rider/team names for chasing riders/teams they like.

Frustrating thing is (I know it's all ifs and buts) if Contador hadn't been ill on that Andorra stage, he'd currently be a minute down on Froome and on current form I'd be backing him to win the GC tomorrow.. as it is he's gonna go early, no way is he just aiming for the podium tomorrow..

Sky was gonna chase anyway. Anyway, you 2 are going to the ignore list.
