Herrada doesn't have any GT credentials, but I assume he's never given a **** before. His palmares otherwise is pretty good.
If he gets 10 minutes or so, this could be entertaining.

Arroyo, Giro 2010?

10 minutes now with ~90km to go. I guess it is fairly safe to predict the break will take this unless they get stupid and start attacking themselves too early. And again, I disagree Herrada being a real threat even with couple of minutes lead after today. He has no track record of being able to climb with the best once the going gets really tough.

You don't come third on the Green Mountain in the Tour of Oman without being able to climb well, though.

That puts him at Rafa Valls' level

M-S is working a bit now -- or at least leading the peloton -- but I think Movistar has to take control and not rely on M-S if they feel there's a threat to their GC riders.

It was a bit of a red herring for Valv and Quintana to call out Yates et al yesterday. After Movistar's "3 equal leaders" TdF failure, they really need a win on home turf.

7 minutes now. Do you think Movistar will help Mitchelton chasing?
Good question, looking forward to the answer.

Why they have to do that? Is Herrada a danger for GC? Of course Pinot it is a problem if he recover one minute and he put again close to the best, but Herrada could get the red with 2 minutes of advantage and that is not a problem por Movistar, even with 5, but of course if the break get 15 minutes and nobody do anything, Movistar will work. Michelton have to work becouse they have the leader

Hmmm, also, it wasn't exactly the most impressive top 10.

But still, it's a tough climb, and he was only 12 seconds slower than López who was going strongly at the time, winning the race of the mortals in Abu Dhabi the subsequent week.

In week long race with most of the riders coming straight from holiday. This is 3 weeks GT.

I have hard times to believe Herrada would even wear Red after today. The Bunch will probably take back around 4-5 minutes in last 50 odd km, when they start fighting against eachothers. Just like yesterday.

Considering the situation on the road and coming trilogy the stage should take someone from the group in front.
We'll see whether Herrada will turn the virtual in the real overall lead, though. He'll need some willing allies.

They have just pass the section wih risk of echelons, but I think the peloton took it easy lokking at the break difference, so no consecuences. Froom now on the profile is hard and the break should not take more time.

Stop being so realistic. ;)

"Faro" means the lighthouse, right?
Are they going all the way to the top? The profile doesn't suggest.

Yes, "Faro" means lighthouse.
And according to the video in the second page of this thread they won't get to the top. They just stop shortly before the "faro".

Nibali obviously has decent form now, why isn't he saving himself to better help Ion Izagirre in the coming days? Selfish ****!

Michelton want to give up the red... so it will be like that except any other team work at the end.

Izagirre isnt a contender, a top 10 would be great for him, but top 5 isnt realistic.

Nibali is a champion, he has earned the right to pursue his own goals. And if that is building up his form to maybe win the rainbow jersey in the only chance he has left in his career, so be it.

Just looked at the Google Earth... narrow road to the finish, it appears. And Faro isn't that high, anyway.

Not sure how you can be so certain of this.

I thought Bora will be riding for Sagan today. This was his last chance to win a stage at Vuelta. If they think that Formolo in 18 man break is better option... They will not ride the peloton anyway next stages.

He could still build his form whilst helping Ion. There's probably an element of disharmony in the team, hence why the Izagirre bros are leaving (or due to the fact they're leaving).

Yeah, at least he could have gone in the break himself if they didn't want a day of chasing.
