I mean, yeah, Herrada won't win the race with those 3 minutes, but it's pretty remarkable anyway. Doesn't happen often for a break to get that out of hand for the peloton. Sky would've never allowed that if they had GC hopes.

He got dropped because he was fooling around with Brambilla who didn't want to work, and he wasted a lot of energy bridging back to the leaders. He barely made it back on in time for the sprint, it was a mistake, not a deliberate tactic

Can Herrada hold on to the jersey the next couple of stages? Camperona is so short that he's not going to lose 3 minutes, but 1½ minutes is not unlikely. Les Praeres on saturday looks very similar to Camperona, so I'm guessing he'll have lost his advantage by Sunday

No. He had left Devenyns and Brambilla behind, and rejoined the group of 4 that had got ahead, several km earlier. Then with about 1km left he and Formolo dropped behind the group of 4. If he had the power to catch up and be strongest of them in the last 200m, why did he let himself get so far behind with 800m to go? Threw it away.


Anyway, have we heard whether he is OK after flipping over the idiot official?

It wasn't a spectator, Van Baarle isn't a sprinter and the crash wasn't his fault. Other than that, great post!

And given the weather, I'm fairly sure they weren't sunglasses.

Herrada lost 1:14 to the best GC finisher (López) at Sierra de la Alfaguara and Le Covatilla.

Should hang on for the next two days then (assuming the GC guys aren't attacking really early) and then will probably lose it on Lagos de Covadonga.

Indeed. I actually was surprised van Baarle gave Geniez a hard time. Geniez pretty much always wins a group sprint.
