What about Castroviejo?
I hadn't seen the profile of the last stage. Yeah Castroviejo too, but all the guys from the break could be a threat.

Except that I don't think any of them can threaten Luisle.

I thought the last stage was a time trial that's why I mentioned him.

Hahaha, at first I thought it was an MTF, hence why I mentioned Moreno and Machado.

Oh well.

Uh Gerdemann showing he is still active.

Maybe this was the first step back for him?

Back to what?

About Machado targetting TOC, I don't think so. Horner is their leader there I guess. Probably Romandie and Giro I hope.

He won in honor of his brother's favorite cyclist VDB? Or what is he saying?

Simply that he won where VDB (the rider his brother looked up to) won. The idea is more that he won in a place with legendary cycling associations rather than that he honoured Vandenbroucke per se - although of course reverence is implied.

Gerdemann hasn't raced since February. I am not sure if the break was scheduled so to speak. I wanted to ask what is up with him and Zubeldia who also hasn't raced since February but it seems Gerdemann at l(e)ast is riding.

And Machado is indeed scheduled to ride California

Ah OK I didn't notice that he wasn't riding since February.

I know Machado is scheduled for California, I just pointed out that he'll probably work for Horner

well he will need to learn how to climb if he ever wants to be successful in a GT, which is something i am starting to think he never will. hell i would have costa with a higher chance of doing a top 10 in a GT then machado, at least costa has some ambition.

Machado is a better climber and probably TT'er. But the way he rides....If he had half the brain Rui has he would be at least a great stage hunter a bit like Luis Leon. I still give him the edge on GT's but he really needs to step up his climbing. Even in Portugal it wasn't good enough.

I prefer Rui Costa myself mainly because he's a winner. He knows how to finish it off. Sometimes I wonder if Machado is on the right team: for RSNT it's all about hanging on in the mountains, wait for TT, win team GC... Maybe it's time to try something different.

he should have moved to saxo with paulinho and pires, the reverence he has for the hog is ruining him. he can't be that smart otherwise he would have realized that the hog has pretty much ruined every young talent he had for the last 10 years. . . and he it's not only his climbing that he needs to improve. he needs to learn how to properly peak for a race and how to use his brains. i seriously think he is hopeless.

costa is the way to go for portuguese cycling, he delivers and shows ambition something machado never does. i mean costa says he wants to win liege which is a monument machado says he hopes to make it to the top 10 in a GT which is a rather irrelevant result that doesn't show much self confidence nor ambition.

also it has been what? an year since he has had a decent performance? and the only thing he improved has been his itt ever since he joined the shack.

it's sad to say this but it's the truth :(

Well there is hope. He's still young and he has time to realize that with Shcleck, Shcleck, Kloden, Horner, Monfort..... he won't get oportunities any time soon. Saxo Bank would have been a good option indeed. There he could basically choose which races he wanted to ride. Even if Contador had stayed he could still have lots of freedom.

"an year since he has had a decent performance?" - I disagree with this. He has lots of decent performances. But not really a breakthrough performance. Maybe you're right and he doesn't know how to peak.....

Since he's having a light early season, I hope he can peak for Vuelta and ride the Worlds. Do you know if Rui Costa is targetting it? He was top20 last year so maybe he could do a little better this year and maybe crack the top15. Paulinho, Machado, Pires, Cardoso would make a decent support.....
