If they give us a proper Giro course, he'll not even make it to a sprint, then miss the time limit on the first intermediate stage.

He would have be fine for the first week of this years Giro. Was that not a proper course?

Of course, they've now moved Angelo on so they can stop the road to nowhere of more and more ridiculous routes.

He would probably have lasted out until Etna, but would he have been there to contest the sprints? That's what I'm getting at, I'm not expecting a mountain stage on day 2 or anything. Remember a horribly off-form Cavendish struggling to get over the smallest hills and being dropped in every stage of Tirreno-Adriatico last year? That's what I'm talking about, only Guardini would be climbing at the peak of his powers.

He's a young kid - Cavendish could barely finish a race his first 3 months as a pro.

I think he'll be fine in the long run, and of course you hope he has no career.

is it possible to find some detailed profile of Saz Lorenzo? If to believe the oficial site final kilometer has got 20% av. it's unlikely

I find it so irritating that people are overhyping Guardini because of some wins is easy peasy races. 1 bump and he's gone.

What do we expect from Cav then? A few stage wins, and then quit or try and keep his green?

he will drop out.

didn't he said he felt his worlds chances were affected by finishing the vuelta last year?

No he said he had fantastic form coming out of the vuelta which he was afraid of losing so then over trained once he got to Australia. When the race started his legs went & he realised he'd F$$$$$ up.

The poster meant the last run up in San Lorenzo del Escorial, which I believe has around 13% average gradient.

The Asturian San Lorenzo you posted is a toughie though.

indeed the guy is just an awful climber. he won the flattest stage of the volta and was completely cooked at the end from the little tiny climbs on that stage.

Pfff, no one cares about the Volta
/El Pistolero mode;).

Dude, have you seen the rumours for next year? Stelvio, Gavia –Mortirolo- St Christina, another uphill tt.

They fired Zomegnan for transfers and other fiascos. The Giro has made a niche out of presenting superhard courses and I think the organisers understand that.

He may have said that too but Parrulo is right he did also say that finishing the Vuelta last year affected his chances.

Parrulo might have heard it from me since ive posted it quite a few times since i heard him say it in that Eurosport "Cav season in review" or whatver it was called 1 hour proggrame from Christmas last year.

In it he said that doing the whole Vuelta was a mistake, a mistake he wont make again, because it tired him out for the worlds.

As such i would expect him to finish the Vuelta earlier this time, even though there are a lot of sprint stages in the last week, espcially considering that its harder than last year so probably not worth going over huge mountains when top form is needed a few weeks later.

What stages would Cav be targetting? Had a look at the profile, and the first two weeks has very, very few bunch sprint - friendly parcours.

Is Nicky Roche doing the Vuelta? Last year here was career best performance.

Got them the WT spot to let his good friend Gadret let rip in Il Giro.

Seriously though surely hes doing it and if so a good bet for top 10. Needs to make amends for a poor season so far.

The One Jose did the Vuelta last year and sucked big time. No reason to believe he can do any better this time though he was awesome in 2 stages in TA.

Roche defo doing it. As we are aware his form has stunk all year so can only hope the shorter, punchier climbs bring out something like his best. His tt still sucks so theres a few dropped places right off the bat

Finishing the Vuelta in 2009 in podium position wasn't a mistake for the 2009 World Champion.

Maybe 3 and definitely 7. 16 if he sticks around. I don't see many stages either.

2 flat stages is enough for Cav to make it worthwhile :p

Though he usually isn't very good at the Vuelta(last year he never impressed me, knowing his usual level)

There has been quite a bit of talk on the Vuelta posts about 'aggressive' and 'defensive' riders... since this tour has time bonuses on the line... who will be going for those extra seconds?

YES - JRod, Scarponi

No - Menchov

What about all the others?

What do you mean no on Menchov? He's actually a decent sprinter in mountain finishes, do you by any chance remember the 09 Giro?

Bonus seconds are bull****. Looking at the stages there's almost too much time available for people that can hide in the pack until 1km to go.

Thankfully there's Angliru and the TT.

Indeed.

It all sounds good in theory, but in real life those bonus seconds usually go to passive riders who don't really deserve them.

Hopefully they'll go to Rodriguez and Anton this year and not to the likes of Menchov.

I don't see much difference between Rodriguez' trademark jump at 1 k to go or Menchov sprinting from a few hundred meters out.
