Is it? I don't know that I agree. 2 of the 3 have time bonuses, and the Tour used to; in that case, any sprinter who was dominant in their time, especially to the extent that Cav is, could take it at some point in the first week just by not being completely appalling in the prologue, especially considering the Tour likes to have no GC stages until the second weekend. A TTer is perhaps better suited because of the likelihood of a prologue to begin a race. But for a GC man to hold each jersey, they have to have been at the business end at some point once the racing has got going in earnest, and so for Evans to hold it in each of the last GTs is, to me, more of an achievement than if Cav were to win a stage 1 sprint and two TTTs from a team comprised almost entirely of national TT champions.

Sure it is more of an achievment for cuddles because he has had very weak teams, does everything himself and did it in 3 consecutive gts.

Im just saying its rare for a sprinter to hold this accomplishment. Though this discussion will all probably come to nothing when Garmin win on saturday and cav gets a toothache to knock him out of the 2011 tour.

Didn't see any of that weak team this year's Tour. And I mean Lotto of course. Perhaps the blame is on him.

Contador has a special set of 3...has anyone ever worn 9? KOM and GC can't be too rare, going back few years, and points depends on how they are allocated, but after a prologue or something?

Also, what other languages do you speak, if any, that would be a good way to rule out certain streams.

But what is this talk about legal issues? Will the city really try to stop the race? That would be quite strange, as they did apply for the race and probably paid for it as well. What are the chances of it not going on? Anyone from Spain can help me with that?

I speak Spanish and English, sorry for not translating the article. The mayor has said that there won't be any problem. It's the word of a politician so we have to believe that he,he

"El alcalde de Sevilla garantiza el inicio de la Vuelta"

"The mayor of Seville ensures the initiation of the Tour"

It's a relief, not always I can enjoy such event in my own city :)

canNibali is my favorite for Vuelta . Vuelta is more exciting than TdF everytime . Less hierarchy in teams and beautiful Spain !

Schlecks and Menchov cant do anything , they abandon in the second week and Frank go for honeymoon with his new wife. Menchov starts dreaming his days in Team Geox.

I was under the impression that Perreiro after doing nothing all season, that this this was going to be his chance. He even rode the TDP in preperation

I even remember people on here dreaming that Vino would win the Giro, Contador the Tour and Perreiro the Vuelta.

But hes not going

Whats up with that

Thanks for that, it would be a really strange sight, a stage race with immediately the first stage taken out

Injured. He's had a hand issue ever since his crash in the 2008 Tour, and a crash or hitting a pothole or something in the TdP caused it to flare up and aggravated it, so he has had to have surgery on it, which has caused him to drop out of the Vuelta.

And presumably thats all she wrote for this former tdf winners career?

Possibly. He's still not that old, but has talked about finishing it off at a small hometown crit or one-day race in October or something.

Last season he did talk about wanting to ride for Xacobeo-Galicia, to end his career with his local team, so unless they come in with a good offer for him then I think it probably will be all she wrote.

Not sure who the "she" you are having a go at here is, or why you think "she" has anything against Pereiro. He is due to ride in, and have tribute paid to him at, the Valencia criterium: if this is to be his final race, then that will be the time for fitting retrospectives and testimonials. That item was simply a startlist update.

Judging by the lack of "smilies" in your post i am assuming that you are not being sarcastic.

"All she wrote" is a figure of speech sometimes used in english which means - "it is over".

So "presumably that is all she wrote for Perreiros career" means "presumably Perreiros career is over"

;)

This is not TTT related but the KoM points are going to be calculated according to the Giro system:

20, 15, 10, 6, 4, 2 - Cima Alberto Fernandez (Bola del Mundo)

15, 10, 6, 4, 2 - mountaintop finishes (stages 11, 14, 15, 16)

10, 6, 4, 2,1 - 1st category

5, 3, 1 - 2nd category

3, 2, 1 - 3rd category

They weren't exactly stellar in supporting Evans, that's just a fact.

Yes, but the team wasn't weak this year now was it? It's not like the team changed a lot... Except for Evans.

So perhaps Evans is to blame and not the team? I wouldn't want to ride for Cadel, that's for sure.

Lotto fans and Cadel... it's a hate-hate relationship.

Nah, I wanted Cadel to win at the Giro, I don't hate him. I just wouldn't want to ride for him if he keeps complaining about how weak the team is.
