I'm thinking Garmin for Stage 1 and Nibali for the overall.

and I like the camiseta (maillot?) roja. Not the Custo one much, but the official one. Go with the national colour, makes sense to me.

In case anybody is wondering (from bicicilismo), here are the time bonifications for the Vuelta:

La Vuelta a España 2010 tendrá bonificaciones en todas las 21 etapas del recorrido, excepto en la 1ª de mañana en Sevilla y la 17ª en Peñafiel por ser contra el reloj. El baremo en la línea de meta será el siguiente: 20, 12 y 8 segundos respectivamente para los tres primeros corredores clasificados. Y también sumarán segundos los tres primeros en los sprints intermedios: 6, 4 y 2 segundos, respectivamente.

My (very) basic Spanish tells me that 20, 18, and 8 seconds for the first riders over the finish line at the end of the stage, and 6, 4, and 2 seconds at the intermediate sprints. No?

Yes, except in the time trials of course. Good idea, the favourites will try to outsprint each other in the last climbs.

As mandated by UCI regulations. If there are time bonuses, there is no other choice.

IIRC, Mr Guillén said last year that there would not be time bonuses. I guess he changed his mind after the Tour.

It will be more fun if there is a break in the lightning system tonight during the TTT as it happened last night during the official presentation :D

A tv coverage question for our Spanish based posters.
Which channels are covering the race?
I usually follow TVE International, but this year, I can't find it in their programming.
It looks as if Teledeporte only have the race.

If they do as they did for the Tour de France, only Teledeporte has the race. Weekend stages may switch to TVE-1 if there are no other sport events. (Indianapolis Moto GP takes precedence tomorrow)

I can't confirm on TVE International, as the web page only has the programming guide two days ahead, but I'm not surprised to see they cover the race with a single channel.

I wonder if the spanish neutral service can cost somebody the race this year?

For the last time, Sánchez was behind Evans when Evans was serviced, Sánchez caught and dropped him. Evans then lost time again the following day. And he wasn't winning the race at that point either. And he didn't attack a single time after that.

If you want to be angry with somebody for costing Evans the race, blame David de la Fuente for thinking he could cruise to the line in 3rd on the Xorret del Catí stage, which allowed Valverde to sprint past him and take the time bonus on the line, or Francis de Greef, for riding past him without stopping to help when Evans was being serviced, or Evans himself for not attacking at any point in the race after losing the maillot oro.

I do appreciate that Evans has been screwed out of every single race he's ever entered - including the ones he won - but for christ's sake, repeating the same half-truths over and over again doesn't make them any more true. I'm sorry your guy lost to Valverde. No, wait, actually I'm not, not at all. I hope when Valverde comes back he beats Evans over and over again like the good old days, because it will be interesting to see what new excuses Cuddles comes out with for not being as good as the Don.

No one see sky as a potential threat for the ttt?
They are usually a good ttt force, even without Thomas, Wiggins and Hagen.
That track background (for some of the team) could help in a short 16k ttt.

They might surprise a few people, If they can go into a sort of leadout mode and go full pelt they could be quite dangerous. I like HTC to win though, followed closely by Garmin, Saxo.

Sky possibly 4 or 5.

Really? I don't think they have enough of the lead out guys for a good short TTT, there's only really Lofkvist who can TT; Stannard, Flecha & Swift can probably contribute - with the others just looking to keep up (although I confess I'm not sure how well Nordhaug TTs).

I see them finishing about halfway

Who knows with their final position, the thing is its short and flat so anything can happen.
A longer TTT then Garmin look the strongest.

Totally random question: Is it the person whose start-number ends with 9 that's the team captain, or is it just Saxo Bank deciding to go against the norm?

There's no rule. Most teams give '1' to the leader and then proceed alphabetically, but maybe Fränk asked for number 9. Maybe he could care less. Either way, Stuart O'Grady will be the captain most likely. If not him, Cance.
