On a much more trivial note, ie one to do with a bike race rather than life and death, Xavier Tondo managed to lose 18 seconds today, dropping him from 7th to 13th.

Not exactly earthshattering news from a GC perspective, but I wasn't expecting any changes in the top 25 or so at all.

Sastre lost 18 seconds too. I imagine them Cervélo guys were just frolicking around having a good time when the bunch split in the last km.

Why? As far as I know, there was no crash, no puncture, no anything.

lavuelta.com's results service has been less than decisive, to put it mildly, so far; although it is marked as provisional, it has been highly unreliable until about 9pm after most stages.

As to why: who knows, theye are unlikely to put out a press release drawing attention to their error, but my guess would be a review of the tape with closer attention to measuring the gap between 83rd and 84th positions.
