Great win Philipsen. the well deserved highlight of his career so far.

Ackermann is going to be under a lot of pressure to deliver in Madrid. Technically he has his stage, but he hasn’t been the fastest in any stage. That’s not a great look for a guy who was supposed to be making his claim to be the top sprinter in the peloton.
 
Philipsen has shown an improvement since the Covid break in the season. He’s looked much more threatening to the big boys, nearly getting Bennett in the first sprint here for example, and has his two best career wins here and at the Binckbank Tour. I mean, he should be improving at this point in his career given his age but there are no guarantees.

Alpecin look shrewd in picking him up.

He's 22! Some wouldn't even have him starting GTs yet, let alone winning stages, and certainly not like this one.

A very good get by Alpecin, he looks like the kind of rider who will pick up a lot of stage wins.
