Headwind or not, you have Roglic isolated and multiple teams with multiple riders and apart from Yates no one really attempts anything? Movistar and Bahrain basically arrive with 3 riders each, surely you let atleast MLA or Mas attack once to try the water, especially with Mas apparently looking the strongest today.
Padun with great Ullrich as Riis domestique impressions, looking around every 5 seconds unsure what to do. De la Cruz more at the front of the Peleton on a final climb than any of Pogacars UAE teammates at the whole tour.
Only thing worse than how the climb was ridden was the coverage at the end but that was kinda expected.

Did Rogla fall asleep? Not that I blame him.

Strong head wind & looked quite "comfortable" following the other favorites. He said before the stage he'd be happy to just climb with the favorites group & accomplished exactly that. Beyond all the online jokes about "roglstomping" everyone, I'm really relieved to see that Tour crash is now in the past & it didn't impact his climbing abilities because in the Tour & Olympics he got dropped on far lesser climbs than today.

I'd have hated to have another Pinot situation. So it's good news. But the teammates are another matter (I hope some of them soft pedalled to save some energy).

Magnificent win for Taaramäe. Didn't really dare to hope before he was still there with only Dombro and Elisssonde left and started to attack those two. For several years, his career seemed to be fading away towards inevitable retirement sooner rather than later. The Indian summer he's having this year is all the more special and enjoyable for it.

His infamous misjudgement of Xorret del Cati is one of the most vivid and enduring memories from my early days as a cycling fan, so its really nice to have something more positive to place beside it. (I wasn't able to watch the stage to Farrapona he also won ).

It really is the year of comebacks...

Nice win by Taaramae. Elissonde always finds one or two better than him in these situations. Little action from the GC contenders, Valverde always looks livelier in the Vuelta.

Overweight Padun was dragging the peleton in the head wind and killed a few attacks. If Primoz doesn't get at least a 5 minute gap by the third week he will be crying at the end.

Shocking performance by Óscar Cabedo who was at the front end for a long time and even put in an attack. He has never shown a level anywhere near that before.

If the name Cabedo rings a bell, he had a brother, Víctor, who was also a professional rider and rode for Euskaltel in 2012 but as a neopro he lost his life in a collision with a vehicle during a training ride.

Movistar clearly started their attacks too late. They missed the lead in the teams classification by 22 seconds.

Not a great result for my CCC team with Carthy being slightly off the pace and both Cabedo, Carr and Cepeda beating Caruso.

Apart from Carapaz no one lost too much time. Roglic is still very much the favourite, but there is some firepower around him, who could challenge him, if his team and/or him isn't as strong as expected.

So Movistar the team to beat?
It is actually good for the race.
Could not read that much from the race other than everyone not named Movistar suffered a lot.
