If they actually did lose that time on the climb there, they've no chance here unless someone has a lot left in the tank and is feeling very strong.

Gap could have been wrong or wrong now but losing 2 minutes something on a 3k climb isn't good for them

Teams like Bahrain and a few others are going to drive hard to the base of the climb, so even more of the gap will be reduced by the time they’re all on the climb. Unless someone like Bayer or Dombro is on top form and managed to save some agency, the peloton will take this.

Dombrowski must not be feeling well since UAE is leading the peloton.

UAE is clearly "leading" the peloton in an attempt to slow it down. Don't you see how it became much more compact?

Teams do this all the time, either in descents or tight roads.

Although I guess Libertine Seguros and Mayomaniac will claim they're chasing their own rider.

They were the only team in front a moment ago - and clearly pushing a quite high pace. Though I guess they just wanted to bring De La Cruz towards the climb in a good position.

TBH, the peloton has no interest in chasing them down, I doubt that UAE's tactics here have any impact on the outcome.

Okay, I never understand these attacks ( like Calmjeane just now) from the breakaway group in the kms just before a big finish climb. On the big climb riders either have the legs and current form to keep it together on the climb, or they don’t. If you do have the legs but suspect a few others might climb well, it would be silly to waste energy on getting a brief gap on the flat. If you don’t have the legs, attacking before the climbs just means that regardless of how big a gap the rider gets on the others in the breakaway, they will eventually get reeled in and then dropped like a stone, eventually losing even more time. So what’s the point? Just grandstanding? DS orders to get more TV time? Combativity award? For the latter they shouldn’t give any great for simply stupid attacks.
