Masnada is the only QS rider that has been near the front of the peloton so far?
Not surprising

I take it that it is Masnada as the only QS rider in the large chase group? Not the man I would want there.
Good job you are no the DS. Vervacke also there.
Why? He's their best climber by far, on his day a lot better then Remco.
True but he is come back from Mononuclosis, its an uphill battle much like the stage today

Why not? I think Van Wilder is the only one genuinely capable of being there when the pace goes up, so perhaps Vervaeke and Masnada being ahead before the action starts offers a chance of being more useful to Evenepoel instead of just being dropped
If you cannot stop a big group from getting away, it's better to have good satellite riders there as well, but the best would be no hostile satellite riders in front on the last climb.

Front group is too strong, there's about to be a hell of a lot of looking around nervously

Carthy is exceptional on monster climbs and later into GTs but I fear he's done too much at the start

If Roglic can drop Evenepoel on the second last climb, he and Dennis as a satellite rider could put a lot of time into him...
Not really controlable for QuickStep.

will jumbo, ineos and Movistar start chasing at one point... it seems like Quick Step is happy to let guys like Arensman, Hindley and Carapaz near red again.

The last climb takes an hour. No moves before then, only a strong pace.

QS made the sensible choice of putting two riders in the break instead of burning themselves trying to control the race.

Remco will have his work cut out for him today.

That break is probably worst case scenario for him.
