So one bad day (hopefully) and everybody thinks they will attack him on the steep parts?
The same steep parts where he dropped everyone on Les Praeres
When he's struggling offcourse that's the hardest part, but if he's better again tomorrow I can see him defend just fine against Roglic

Sierra Nevada will be a stressy one as a Belgian, hope he can find his dominant legs again
Yes of course, if you want to win significant time, you have to somehow drop Remco before the Sierra Nevada 5% grind. And today might be the only chance to win significant time.

Everyone is expecting carnage today and I hope the racing is exciting. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I checked the last time the Vuelta went to Sierra Nevada and the time gaps were relatively modest. Definitely no larger than we see on the average 12km @7% Cat1 climb.

What is the difference this time?

attacking from distance usually does not work on this climb.

Contador tried that in 2017, and he threw away the entire Vuelta

The good news for Remco is that the profile won't allow for him to do a Simon Yates. All he needs to do is sit on Almeida's wheel instead of trying to follow accelerations.

The bad news is that if he does get dropped, Roglic won't worry about looking around for others to help. He's incredibly level headed, this race would already be over if he'd let the fact that no one ever seems to be willing to do anything other than sit on his wheel when Remco's not there.

Expect to see an 80km battle to form a breakaway because Vine and Carapaz keep chasing each other. Eventually Froome, Nibali, Pinot, Chaves and a random rider from Cofidis will roll off the front. Stelvio Dennis will take over on the 2nd last climb to shred the peloton and lead Roglic, Superman, Mas, Rodriguez and the random Cofidis rider onto the descent. Roglic, Superman and the random Cofidis rider will battle it out on Sierra Nevada before the random Cofidis rider punctures and Almeida appears from nowhere to win the stage by 10 secs. Evenenpoel OTL.

I think that the main difference is the fact in the first 5 we have 3 people who are unknown at this stage of a GT and at this altitude. Also, we have Lopez and Roglic, who are looking good and will definitely attack.
Plus, that's the hardest and actually last really hard stage this Vuelta has.

Profile is *** but it's the riders (and racing situations) that make the race and we have a favorable ones today. Looking forward.

The GC this year had the biggest gaps in the top 10 after 9 stages that I recall from recent years, and that cannot be attributed to the route. Check the gaps in Les Praeres '18 (stage 14) vs this year (stage 9).

I'm really worried for Remco today, I think another Roglstomp is more than 50:50... But if Remco can keep any loss under 1 minute, a 3rd week recovery is still possible.

Is Froome still in the race? Haven't seen him to do anything whatsoever. Would be a nice stage to go into the break if he has anything left in his legs.

Everyone serious about GC should be getting men in the break as to have someone there when the steep part finishes, unlikely to be many left after that.

Look to Dennis, Van Wilder, Carapaz, DVB, Soler, Nibali(!!!??).

EF are going to yeet this from the gun as well.

Klaas Lodewyck (trainer) said that Remco was feeling much better than yesterday when he woke up. Hope this is a good sign!

What else could he say, regardless of Remco's form? Any anyway, I think a rider often doesn't really know how strong his legs feel until he hits the road.
