Bad weather, a lot darker than anticipated due to lots of clouds and rain.
Vingegaard punctured, Almeida with a mechanical.
About the darkness. The images must have made it a little darker? Sunset was 20.35 and Soudal quick Step started at 20.19.

I think there were just no lights either. (the pictures make it better then it is due to the flash)

As screwy as the timing was to start, it would be interesting to know if Movistar DS in the car had a clue as to the time situation. He should have been screaming in their ears.

I dunno -- maybe the directors were more concerned with riders crossing the line in one piece, but someone screwed up big time.

It was Erviti. I think he went as fast as he could but not explosive. He came out of the final corner in 3rd wheel.

I think Roglic crashed or just missed a corner, which caused them to wait. I think I saw Vingegaard in shot, so that would rule him out.

Vingegaard had a flat and changed bike.

I'm sure it has been considered. It wasn't too long ago that an opening stage of the Vuelta literally started on a beach.
They're moving further inland, so that's a nice start.
Maybe next they'll go fully indoors.

Congratulations to dsm-firmenich for winning the opening TTT.

From organization point of view this was not the best organized TTT. Criticism is hence justified. As for the results. Gaps among the favorites are rather big but in the end it's stage 1. The main purpose of this stage always was about some prestige.

Saw a brief resume of the stage and i'm confused to say the least...
Can someone tell me what the hell happened?
Saw some teams crossing the finish line with sunlight but also saw Movistar, UAE and Quickstep crossing the finish line at almost pitch-black conditions! How on earth could this be?
The organization wasn't aware of the sunset predicted time?
Also saw the UAE team at the finish line and no sign of Almeida, so why on earth he's on the same time as the first 5 UAE team members to cross the line?

Far from a spectacle, just finished watching the stage and I couldn't even see the course with the last teams. Broadcast also sucked...
