Costa gonna win this, aint he?
Post of the Day!

Yep, the Grand Old Man himself, wins! ICW done well and some how sums up the state of this race.
(Many years ago, i think it was Sean Kelly, who said on TV that nobody wants Costa in a break as he's a wheelsucker. Ha ha!:))

Libertine I see what you are saying but I don't believe in " easy minutes " in a GT against pros where a win is everything at these caliber of event. Remco is riding like a cartoon, went over a cliff got blown up by dynamite, hit by a train, anvil dropped on his head, he gets up brushed it off and gave us this..Jumbo I believe was telling the truth, their alarm bells are ringing if he gets 2 or 3 minutes, didn't look like they could do anything about it and even the green jersey was up there trying to reel him in.. the guy is a beast

Lol.

Jumbo signalled today they're not gonna give Evenepoel anything more than 2-3 minutes for free, while Evenepoel very clearly showed he can't go nuts all day every day.
Yep, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday are days Remco can get back some time, but how will he do on Wednesday & Thursday up in the mountains though. The weakness of his team is very obvious now. He's still 16 minutes behind Kuss, so Jumbo can let him take back 10 minutes and still not care.

it would've been amazing if Costa lost the sprint to Kamna because he refused to work with Buitrago after Kamna crashed, but life isn't fair

So you think he rode four minutes into the whole GC mix and they went all out on Larra-Belagua yesterday? I don't. I think he will be marked more closely the nearer he gets and he'll have to earn those minutes going forward rather than being allowed into breaks that gain minutes.

Remco: Kom, another stage, top 10.
He’ll win the Kom, the other two will be difficult.
(I had a great run, I didn’t collapse.)

But he does not necessarely need to gain time on Kuss to get back in the top ten, he just need to gain on 5 of the 15 riders in front. That said, i don't thinck he cares about a top ten

Indeed. But he really is an annoying wheelsucker. I am actually surprised no one just belts him.

(I know this is very much historical, but it's in the category of "so weird and random, it's hard to forget.")

Am I a bad person for mostly remembering Costa as "that guy who once got beaten up with a bike wheel"?

If some of those riders care about their top 10s, they will be the ones that have to chase him. Jumbo needn't. But we have seen enough examples of riders caring about their anonymous lower end top 10s because of sponsor needs or UCI points or what have you, so some of those teams might ride to prevent him getting in breaks or to manage the time gained by breaks he's in as a result.

I don't think Remco really cares about just ending up in the top 10. He probably rode a bit within himself later on on the Tourmalet stage once he realised he was completely out of it (after all once you've lost 23 minutes, what's another five minutes?), and is reaping the rewards for that in the last couple of days.

Well, it says something that I actually have more things that I remember Carlos Barredo for out of that fight, and he was hounded out of the sport and retrospectively biopass banned a decade ago whereas Costa has been an active pro the entire period since.

I think this is how old people's memories usually work. Remembering things in the distant past but not more recent events.

Also, LS just posted that photo....

If you watch Horner go down memory lane, Costa was his teammate so that will be part of today's YouTube offering.
I enjoy the Libertine perspective were the top 10 can look at each other and sort of allow Remco to race a separate event like for the last 2 days..
There is no fire if you can't see the smoke.
In my opinion, when he is on, nobody in the top 15 riders can keep a Remco wheel if he is trying to shake you. Have not looked at remaining stage profiles, but in my wildest dreams didn't think he could destroy people again today and get 3 minutes and finish just off the podium, in the same camera frame as the people sprinting for the win..I am blown away by these 2 days of riding, as you can tell..

What race did you watch. The GC riders had another day off. After the first hour the JV trio were breathing through their noses.
