They could have done a big Andorran stage similar to the one 2015. Doing more or less all of the big climbs in Andorra. Gallina, La Rabassa, Beixalis and Ordino. With a finish either in Arinsal or perhaps in Els Cortals.

This thread has been rather dead lately, so a lot of older and newer rumours that haven't been shared here yet. TL;DR: it's an even-numbered Vuelta and it's showing.

Peña de Francia is rumoured as an MTF. This should logically be the first MTF of the race, on stage 4 or maybe stage 5. The race should also pass through Extremadura (unclear whether these are separate stages).
penadefranciaporcasaritoperfil.jpg

There will be a stage starting and finishing at the Cortizo company in Padrón, this should be a TT. The article mentions the date of the stage as August 28, i.e. stage 11. The Arousa stage mentioned earlier should come the day before it.

There should also be a stage start in the province of Lugo, which would most probably be the day after the TT. The article mentions Ancares as a possible finish for this stage, but this seems to be more wishful thinking than anything else.

Travelling further in what I presume to be the direction of the race, La Camperona could return to the Vuelta.

In Asturias, the Covadonga rumours are picking up steam. The other stage in the province should be to Gijón.

And to cap this post off with another uninteresting MTF: the town of Brañosera, the oldest municipality in Spain, is supposedly bidding; this stage would finish above the town on Golobar.

There's a confirmed stage in the Basque Country in the final week.

In the rumours category:

There's hilly stage in the province of Málaga and a mountain stage in Granada. On this one, the rumour is that Unipublic is so fed up of the restrictions in Sierra Nevada (no old road through Collado de las Sabinas and no go beyond 2500m) that they'll probably have the finish in the city.

There's another rumour about a hilly stage in Galicia with finish at Baiona after Monte da Groba. They definitely liked stage 20 of the 2021 edition and plan for something similar, but this time without hill top finish.

Asturias will host three stage finishes: one in the west of the province, one at Gijon and one at Lagos de Covadonga.

MTF at Pico Pitolero in Extremadura. This is close to Piornal, so depending on its position in the race schedule they have the possibility of adding more climbing. However, the profile screams 3km of real race.

picopitolerosurperfil.png

Pico Pitolero is also 50kms from Peña de Francia as the crow flies, and both are within 100km from the border with Portugal. Since the Basque stage confirms that the last week will be in the North, Pitolero and Peña de Francia should be early in the race. I can see one of them, but not both.

Finally, there's another rumour about a stage in the province of Avila, with Unipublic willing the finish at Gredos and the authorities in the city of Avila.

The joke in the Spanish forums is that they're controlling leaks to the press and keeping a very low profile in a plot to kill any interest about the route, in line with the theory that even numbered years have bad routes.

I heard some rumors about Mallorca being in or is that for later years?
There's a rumour for a start from Torino in 2026. Maybe they jump from Italy to Mallorca as a rehearsal for the Canary Islands.

Rumours have it that Wout v A will do the Vuelta, so if Vingegaard and Kuss do as well, what's the chances of another 1,2,3?

Pitolero still a lot better than Piornal. I remembver looking at cyclingcols and thinking there's literally no decent climbs there but this one is a bit better. Quite fine for week 1.

As for Grenada, is Collado Alguacil also in the nature reserve?

Collado del Alguacil is not in the National Park.

No translation necessary:

In other news, the province of Burgos is bidding for a stage in its northern area. The editor is well versed in the geography of the region and lists all the relevant climbs (La Sía, Estacas de Trueba, Lunada and Picón Blanco). The first three are at the border with the region of Cantabria. I bet they'll get rid of regional border issues and do Picón Blanco x 2.

Pico Pitolero confirmed, possibly stage 5. Can they make it Cima Contador?
There will be another stage, most likely flat, in the province of Badajoz

EDIT:
Meanwhile, AS says no Pico Pitolero in 2024.
Looks like Unipublic is spreading contradicting leaks to different media.

Pico Pitolero is like Schrödinger's cat. According to the link below it will be stage 4.

In another news, there will be three stages in Galicia. The mandatory Ancares rumour is on.

Edit:
Ancares confirmed, but because of the border dispute between Galicia and León, the stage finish location is still undecided/undisclosed.

This would be on the Thursday of the second week. So I guess the second week will be in Galicia and Asturias with a possible stage in León.

So what is it that we can expect tonight?

First week from Lisboa to Granada, second week in Galicia and Asturias, third week in the North too?

Stage finishes in Córdoba, Cazorla and Granada on the weekend before the first rest day
On those dates, wouldn't that be the end of the second week?

I'm trying to piece together info in this thread, what has been posted by @ammattipyoraily on twitter, and what else I've seen reported. The first week has the most mixed rumours, and specific stage orders are mostly guesses.

I don't get why they already use Lakes of Covadonga again. Instead of Gamoniteiru after it's first inclusion wasn't a success due to race development.

Just make Gamoniteiru the main mountain stage instead of Angliru next year.
