I would say - should it happen, stranger thing would have happened before. He showed in Valencia and Nice that he can climb. And he targeted the Vuelta. And that often leads to unusual results (Velits 3rd, Haig 3rd, Carthy 3rd, ...)
Tbf Valencia and Nice are a lot different than competing with Yates, Roglic etc going up Covadonga or Picon Blanco

He could be. In the pre-Pogacar era he would be.

he was brutally efficient in the mountains the year Pogi lost the TdF the 1st time
He needs a non mountainous course with a ton of time trials (and then prays Remco, Pogacar or Vingegaard don't enter that race). In a course like this Vuelta, I don't think he climbs anywhere well enough for the mountains that are coming and for the competition here.

Yeah, on that one mountain stages, but the discussion about his sudden climbing performance after Majka's injury belongs into another part of the forum.

That Peyregudes stage with Bjerg dropping Quintana and Geraint Thomas was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on a cycling broadcast.

Sweet jersey, awesome win! Pretty exciting finish to a TT. Enjoyed that. Feel bad for Wout, but great to see McNulty get it.
