Thought Leijnse/Poole(?) got caught riding for Bittner and Campanaerts gambled too much, Schmid ended up 11th with nobody doing a turn for him so it probably would've stuck with just a little bit of help.

If there was a stronger group in the break then Alpecin would not have won the stage. If Campaenerts had gone with Schmid's attack they would have stayed away because Schmid was super strong. Anyway, think Schmid can win one of the upcoming one day races in Italy.

What happened to Vlasov today. Pretty weird to try to limit time loss the whole Vuelta after he did his work to just then lose 10 minutes in a flat stage?

Interesting stage. Only 140km long but with 2500 vertical meters. If not a break then a reduced bunch sprint. I don’t find it too unlikely that one or two top ten GC riders are caught snoozing in the back of the bunch at some point, making it a frantic three hours.
...or maybe not.

I don't know for sure but there were splits in the peloton coming down off the decent. He might have been caught out.

The more thinking I do about the final suggests Campaenerts cost himself by not working with Schmid in the last 2kms. Even if he gave soft turns they make the final before the peleton and Campaenerts wins the stage.

Easy as its gets for Groves - he's won 3 stages now. But its a sad reminder seeing him in the green jersey and thinking what happened to Wout.

A lot of strong riders finished at over 10 mins. So looks like a strong break wins on tomorrow's lumpy stage. Hard day at the office coming up.

Just watched. Bummer. An illegitimate green jersey winning, with an illegitimate polka dot jersey finishing as well...at least the other Aussie didn't throw a temper tantrum today.
It's definitely a huge bummer Wout isn't there, the jersey distribution would be very different now I think. But I like Vine, so don't mind he inherited the polka dots all things considered. Now he needs to prove he's worthy of it.

You’re acting like they crashed Wout out themselves!

And anyway, Vine lost the polka dot jersey himself by crashing out in 2022 so it’s come full circle for him, in a weird way.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!
Oi Oi Oi!

I'm not Aussie, but I know the chant. Nothing wrong with a bit of fishing on forums, but I actually like Vine. Seems like a humble, super talented guy, who loves to ride his bike.

Groves...not a big fan of many sprinters from any timeframe. Bunch of knuckle dragging bro types, who act like that for the same reason a lot of dudes buy motorcycles.

O'Connor is a twitt.

I think he had a shot at it, even if Wout was there. Groves didn't. Like I wrote above, I actually cheer for Vine.

Good sprint by Vito Braet. He has had a quite solid 1st WT season.

It's a pity he had the untimely mechanical on the Leitariego stage and only managed to come back to the peloton less than 2k to go, otherwise he could have scored another top5 there.

Arne Marit on the other hand has had a dissapointing race.
