Roglic very impressive, he has rode a perfect race tactically and should have cemented a 4th Vuelta after today.

O'Connor fought gallantly and may yet salvage a podium but I think he may slip out of the first three tomorrow, it has been a slow death by a thousand cuts since he took the red jersey.

Mas tried to chase down Roglic and eventually blew up but he tried and still clawed back time on O'Connor so it was a good result for him as I expect him to finish second now.

Carapaz just didn't have it in the legs today even though he was trying to close down the gap but still gained some time in a race for the podium. i think the main battle now will be for that third spot on the podium between O'Connor and Carapaz.

Gaudu seems to be getting stronger as the race goes on. He is at his highest level in some time while Skjelmose also climbed well today and will now be aiming for a top 5 and possibly more on GC if he has a good day tomorrow.

Bora puts on a masterclass for the entire race and drops Rogla off at 5km. Then he puts on a masterclass of riding alone and gaining time. I'll bet the Bora management is drinking to themselves for having picked up Primoz!
They should be. They aren't though, already looking for his replacement. If Evenepoel and maybe later down the line Jarno end up at Bora then the Roglic thread will be a hotbed of action in the next couple of years.

That was exciting, yet boring and predictable at the same time. Alrighty.
I don’t get the boring part. Sure the outcome became clear before the finish, but I thought the anticipation leading into the climb was a nice bit of tension because things were going to blow up but we didn’t know how or who among the leaders would perform. And there’s always drama in how long the red jersey can hang on when the elastic breaks.

Bora only had to use Martinez a couple of times this Vuelta. In those 2 times the Vuelta was decided.

I thought that Roglic was going to blow up due to the insane pace, but at the end was the right move both times, just because he recovered faster than the rest, and once he created the gap he maintained it.
It was an infernal pace when Martinez moved to the front but I wonder was that part of the plan from Bora to drop everyone else from so far out. It didn't look like the optimum tactic at the time but it worked out simply because Roglic was so much stronger than all the other leading contenders and was able to sustain it and pull further away.
