Not a happy moment seeing Quickstep turning themselves inside out for a Landa that is done. Its not the first time this Vuelta Quickstep has buried themselves for his miniscule attacks and then he just fall of after 30 seconds.
UCI should encourage stake holders that under 25 wonderkids should race 1 GT per season, or race the Giro + Vuelta. Racing in the Giro + Tour or Tour + Vuelta is physically taxing. Young body requires enough time for recovery.
Winning the final TT and the Red Jersey could be more important. He also might not have wanted to be the culprit denying O'Connor's position on the podium. Make the other guys earn it and they'll ride the race of Truth tomorrow to see what's what. Still some drama to be had.
Maybe that should be none of UCI's business.

Fair play to enric mas. A true champion rides only for the win. Once he realised it was out of reach, he humbly worked for the real star of the veulta Ben oconnor to keep his second place
Don’t know why today’s stage is considered the queen stage just because it has more total climbs or total elevation—I thought stage to Granada was a more fitting queen stage, though hardly like we would want.
He‘s finished 2nd in the Vuelta three times already, maybe he just couldn‘t take it anymore.
I would tend to agree with you, but this stage was hyped for months as the key stage of the race - even if on closer inspection it was kinda predictable it would be raced in the fashion it was.

Isn't this the first time he actually tried for GC though? I wouldn't draw too many conclusions. And I find it hard to believe Lidl Trek will now completely focus on the tdf with Mattias as their main man.
They (and he himself, as I unserstood) just saw this as an experiment more or less. Ride carefully and see what he is capable of aiming at a gc.
It's almost like people are completely focussed on profiles, not taking into account this was the penultimate stage of a three week GT.

Dunbar another rider that has improving after leaving Ineos, leaving this Vuelta with two stages wins and a top10 on GC.
Mas strong but unable to get that stage win. As for Roglič, I don't think that he had great legs but was more than enough, hopefully he is not sick his teammates.
As for O'Connor once again, he performed better on a stage with more altitude meters, should be able to secure at least the podium.

No question; if he'd had the legs he would have rocketed up the road and put an exclamation point on the day.
That really sucks. I thought he had abandoned during the stage (as was reported at the time) so I initially thought PCS were wrong?
