Lenny VE thinking about what could have been and not what he's done -

"I can be very happy with the condition and how the race went. If I had been beaten in a different way, it would have been a very good result, but right now it hurts a bit," he reflects in conversation with Eurosport post-stage. "Maybe I will think differently about it in a few days."

Despite the presence of the likes of Roglic, Sepp Kuss, Joao Almeida, Adam Yates and others, Van Eetvelt was very vocal ahead of the Vuelta a Espana about his general classification goals and this strong showing is the clearest sign yet that the Belgian has the capabilities to challenge at the top of the GC standings. "I am here for the classification," he insists again. "Today is a nice confirmation, also in terms of form. This performance gives me and the team a lot of confidence to go for it in this Vuelta."

Almeida, was not in the front three himself, in the end showed Landa how to Almeida with the sprint for third.

I don't think I ever cheered regularly for defensive rider, except for Mas, my god he's so predictably boring beyond redemption it's almost adorabele.

I think Roglic has it regardless, but its hard to tell.

Who can realistically win the race now? Roglic, Almeida, Mas and Landa. I'd be very surprised if anyone else wins.
idk the gaps really aren't that big yet for someone else to be a surprise. But why would you throw Landa into that group?

LOL @ Ineos, they even brought these superlight versions on the Dogma without paint or whatever.

Almeida being best UAE rider on a climb that favors him the least actually is a good sign IMHO. I don't see him winning necessarily. But it isn't Almeida's fault that Ayuso couldn't just focus on the 2024 Vuelta a Espana. So UAE had a leader that could win the race.

Ricitello as good as expected.

Tao as bad as expected.

Roglič looked very much in control probably the first of some 4 stage wins for him this Vuelta and confirms the favourite status for GC. The weakness of Bora team is concerning though.

Van Eetvelt did the old mistake celebrating before the finish but looked great and if he keeps like this he should win at least a stage. Still have some doubts about him on the harder stages but maybe he keeps surprising me.

Mas back to his best self in the Vuelta and the Trek and Visma leaders were disappointing. Riccitello the surprise of the day for me.

As for UAE, Almeida did really well coming back from behind as usual and could become Roglič's biggest rival for the race. Yates though was really disappointing.

The aura of our Mikel is far beyond that of any other rider

He did an awful time trial, finished last of the favourites group after dangling the whole of the climb, and hasn't finished in the top 3 of a mountain stage since 2019.

But he is still considered one of the only 4 realistic winners of this race. Because we know how good he can be

But we also know that it won't happen

Nobody else is like this
