Congrats to Vine on another stage victory. Almeida tried but status quo between him and Vingo maintained. The Dane becomes the leader, unsurprisingly. Surprised that Gall lost time and Pidcock looks more consistent than I thought.

Good news for Almeida is that on a long and steep climb (like Angliru) it's really more about pushing your threshold power (or slightly above) than about performing explosive attacks/following wheels. I'm definitely expecting him to increase the gap to other guys there (except Vingo), if he doesn't make stupid pacing mistakes.

I'm more used to "typical Vuelta" being a GT with more short real murito climbs and not so many of these tempo MTFs?
Yes, that's the other option. Either it's a goat trail or these wide open roads. But mountain finishes like these are pointless, you can have as many as you like but it's not going to make the racing interesting. And that's quite typical for the Vuelta.

Harold Martín López and Sergio Geovani Chumil now both in top 20 of GC. Unfortunately, Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda dropped 4 places to 24th.
Vine wins, Almeida gets Vimsa into red, and Ayuso goes off to another team - good day for UAE!
BUT, The Man to Watch moves up to 20th on GC, yeah baby! :D

Not really though. They could have just sat up but Jorgenson decided to pull anyway.

Another good result for Tommy P!
Inches closer to the leaders jersey.
Let’s go champ
Good stage for P tomorrow, could put time into some guys looking at the podium with a descent attack on one of those tough Basque goat tracks. Gall and Ciccone were flailing wildly today, looking like they'd forgotten how to ride a bicycle with the now familiar Q36.5 colours sailing off into the distance.

Almeida has attacked Vingegaard more in this Vuelta than Vingegaard has attacked Pogacar in the Tour :p
Which attacks? If Vingo's moves in the Tour weren't enough for you, surely you can't even call these little turns on the front by Almeida "attacks".

Ajuso did great work for his leader today. Pcs says his contract ends this year and he's on the market. Surely uae will offer him an extension? With guys like vine on the team, Almida needs all the help he can get.
Don't laugh everybody, he could be serious.

Top GC is a bit boring for me, let me hype up some guys that never get hyped up please :D

Well, it's as much on the riders, conditions and so on to make an exciting race day.

Hmm, which climbs make "racing interesting"? If the route is full of steep climbs, you'll see big time gaps early in the stage race, and I don't understand why so many keep wanting such scenarios. Isn't cycling full of races that are being decided too early?
I'm not sure why you think that's the only alternative? A stage like tomorrow already promises to be much more interesting than today. Because it allows for multiple scenarios, also among the favourites. I'm not saying that anything will happen, but at least it's possible.

Which is fine, of course. But all stages can't and shouldn't be like that. At least not in this era in which - for some reason - a couple of riders are clearly stronger than the others.

We just watched a stage where the guy in the red jersey was overtaken on a big climb. That may be a predictable outcome because we know certain things about the riders, but sometimes I just wish we could watch bike racing without all the expectations and ideals we bring into it.
