Surprising to me that the break is cooperating well and attacks aren't flying. Plenty of teams that can't win if they just go to that climb together
UAE are helped by a team that doesn't go for the stage win. Only Movistar with the will to challenge Ayuso.

Lidl obviously reeled in the solo breakaway too early. Now they are more vulnerable on the coming kilometres.

Not a single stage hunter in that break should be happy with the situation apart from the Unchosen Juan

We still got 12 km of "flat" after the intermediate sprint where a group can go away without Trek hunting them down. Those who attack now seem to be wasting energy.

Will be a lot of attacks after the intermediate but then it's probably already too late. Not long enough till the climb starts

is his shape good enough to put significant time into the rouleurs? I wouldn't be too sure
The climb is easily hard enough to put the required time into the rouleurs. In addition, he's one of the best descenders out there. Cerler is an easier climb today, even if it's longer, and Ayuso put 1'15 into the nearest climber.

maybe, yeah. I don't think he will drop Buitrago, though, and then it can come down do cooperating or not.
